Kakunodate, Akita
is a town located in Senboku District, Akita Prefecture, Japan. In 2003, the town had an estimated population of 14,138 and a density of 90.26 persons per km². The total area was 156.63 km². On September 20, 2005, Kakunodate, along with the town of Tazawako, and the village of Nishiki (all from Senboku District), was merged to create the city of Semboku. The town is famed for its well-preserved samurai houses and the proliferation of cherry trees. It is a popular destination for hanami, or cherry blossom viewing. It is sometimes referred as 'the little Kyoto of Tōhoku' (みちのくの小京都 ''Michinoku no sho-Kyōto''). There are the ruins of Kakunodate Castle, and Kakunodate Matsuri is an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Kōhaku Uta Gassen
, more commonly known simply as ''Kōhaku'', is an annual New Year's Eve television special produced by Japanese public broadcaster NHK. It is broadcast live simultaneously on television and radio, nationally and internationally by the NHK network and by some overseas (mainly cable) broadcasters who buy the program. The show ends shortly before midnight. Before the show began broadcasting on television in late 1953, the show was held on 3 January and only consisted of a radio broadcast. The program divides the most popular music artists of the year into competing teams of red and white. Natsuko Godai
, (born 18 December 1961), of Tokyo, Japan, is a Japanese enka singer. Career In 1982, under the alias "Hiromi Hoshi", she debuted with "Koi no Ienakiko" ('恋の家なき子'), released by New Century Records. In April 1985, she used the name "Yuki Kagawa" with the song "Yoake Made Yokohama" ('夜明けまでヨコハマ'). In 1986, using her real name Terumi Nakagawa, she released the song "Yume Kizuna" ('夢きずな'). In 1987, she used the name Natsuko Godai, combining characters from the names of fellow Enka singers Hiroshi Itsuki and Aki Yashiro whom she greatly admired. Under that alias, she released her first major album, 'Modori Gawa' ('戻り川').
