"Awkward" is a song recorded by Australian indie pop band San Cisco and released in September 2011 as the lead single from their second extended play of the same name (2012). In January 2012, the song was voted number 7 in the Triple J Hottest 100, 2011, and following this result, debuted and peaked at number 32 on the ARIA Singles Chart in February 2012 and was certified platinum in Australia in 2013. The song was later also voted number 78 in the Triple J Hottest 100 of the 2010s. The song is a story of a young man stalking his crush, with duelling vocals by Jordi Davieson and Scarlett Stevens. San Cisco
San Cisco is an Australian indie pop band that formed in 2009 under the original name of King George, in Fremantle, Western Australia. The band are a three-piece, and currently consists of Jordi Davieson (guitar, lead vocals), Josh Biondillo (guitar, vocals) and Scarlett Stevens (drums, vocals). Davieson and Biondillo share duties on keyboards. In November 2011, the band was signed by Albert Productions, but moved to Island Records for the release of its debut album. In October 2012, the band described its 'vibe' as "squelchy, crispy, streamlined, hairy, indie". At the ARIA Music Awards of 2013 the group were nominated for Best Independent Release and Best Dance Release for the album; and Best Video for "Fred Astaire", which was directed by Andrew Nowrojee. Indie Pop
Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. The ARIA Charts are the main Australian music sales charts, issued weekly by the Australian Recording Industry Association. The charts are a record of the highest selling songs and albums in various genres in Australia. ARIA became the official Australian music chart in June 1988, succeeding the Kent Music Report, which had been Australia's national music sales charts since 1974. The Triple J Hottest 100 of the 2010s was held on the 14 March 2020. It is a countdown of the most popular songs of the 2010s as chosen by listeners of Australian radio station Triple J. 1.8 million votes were cast by listeners choosing their top ten songs of the decade. Tame Impala's " The Less I Know the Better" was voted into first place. Background Triple J's Hottest 100 of the 2010s allowed members of the public to vote online for their top ten songs of the decade, which were then used to calculate the decade's 100 most popular songs. Any song initially released between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2019 was eligible for the decade's Hottest 100. The Western Australian Music Industry Awards (commonly known as WAMis) are annual awards presented to the local contemporary music industry, put on by the Western Australian Music Industry Association Inc (WAM).
