Aweil, Sudan
Aweil is a city in South Sudan and the capital of the Northern Bahr el Ghazal. Location Aweil is located in ''Aweil Centre County'', Aweil State, in northwestern South Sudan, near the International border with the Republic of Sudan and the Abyei Region. This location lies approximately , by road, northwest of Juba, the capital and largest city in the country. Juba () is the capital and largest city of South Sudan. The city is situated on the White Nile and also serves as the capital of the Central Equatoria State. It is the world's newest capital city to be elevated as such, and had a population of 525,953 in 2017. It has an area of , with the metropolitan area covering . Juba was established in 1920–21 by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) in a small Bari village, also called Juba. The city was made as the capital of Mongalla Province in the late 1920s. Wau, South Sudan
Wau (Arabic: واو ''Wāw''; also known as Wow, Waw, or Wau Town) is a city in northwestern South Sudan, on the western bank of the Jur River, that serves as capital for Western Bahr el Ghazal (and formerly Wau State). It lies approximately northwest of the capital Juba. A culturally, ethnically and linguistically diverse urban center and trading hub, Wau is also the former headquarters of Western Bahr el Ghazal. History Wau was initially established by the French as Fort Desaix and later was established as a ''zariba'' (fortified base) by slave-traders in the 19th century. During the time of condominium rule, the city became an administrative center. All railway stations in South Sudan are on the Babonasa-Wau line, which was built from 1959 to 1962. During the Second Sudanese Civil War, the line was badly damaged and parts of the line were mined. It was fully restored in 2010 with funding of $250 million from United Nations. The Pongo River is a stream in the South Sudanese state of Northern Bahr el Ghazal. It is a right tributary of the Lol River. Course The Pongo rises in the south of Western Bahr el Ghazal. It flows in a north northeast direction into Western Bahr el Ghazal, and passes to the east of Malek Alei. The river branches, with one branch flowing north to join the Lol River around while the longer main branch flows northeast and then east to the south of Akon before turning northeast to join the Lol River. Lol River
The Lol River, or Loll River, is a stream in northern South Sudan that feeds the Bahr al-Arab, known locally as the Kiir River. Course The Lol River forms at the convergence of the Chel or Kuru River and the Magadhik River just west of Nyamlell in Northern Bahr el Ghazal. It flows east, passing Aweil to the south, and is joined by the Pongo River to the east of Akun in Warrap state. It enters Unity state just before turning north to join the Bahr el-Arab.
