The Georgians, or Kartvelians (; ka, ქართველები, tr, ), are a nation and indigenous Caucasian ethnic group native to Georgia and the South Caucasus. Avtandil Jorbenadze ( ka, ავთანდილ ჯორბენაძე) is a former State Minister of Georgia. Before entering politics, Jorbenadze worked as a doctor; in this capacity, in 1992 he was called to take up the post of deputy minister of health. Avtandil Tskitishvili ( ka, ავთანდილ ცქიტიშვილი; 26 July 1950 – 9 December 2013) was a Georgian general who served as the Chief of General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces from January 1992 to December 1993. Tskitishvili was born in Marneuli in 1950. He graduated from the Tbilisi Artillery College in 1972 and the Leningrad Artillery Academy in 1980. He served in the army of the Soviet Union, rising to the rank of colonel in 1985. After the retirement from the Soviet military in 1991, he was instrumental in founding the National Guard of Georgia and took command of its 1st Brigade. After Tchrikishvilli won the World Championships in 2014, the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia named him the Best Georgian Sportsman of 2014. Avtandil Silagadze ( ka, ავთანდილ სილაგაძე ) (born on February 5, 1954) is a Georgian economist and politician. He has been an Academician of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences since 2013 and was a Corresponding Member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences from 2001 to 2013. Avtandil Ivanovich Makharadze ( ka, ავთანდილ მახარაძე; born 16 July 1943) is a Georgian actor. He was born in Batumi. Active since the 1970s. Avtandil Makharadze started his acting career as a student at Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University with performances in the acts of his fellow students. His role in the play ''The Merchant of Venice'', where he played Shylock caught the eyes of critics and the public. He worked at Shota Rustaveli Theatre until 1991 where he had played over 50 roles. Avtandil Khurtsidze ( ka, ავთანდილ ხურციძე; born 2 May 1979) is a Georgian former professional boxer who competed from 2002 to 2017. He held the WBO interim middleweight title in 2017 and won the IBO middleweight title in 2011. He also challenged for the interim WBA middleweight title in 2010. In September 2018, Khurtsidze was convicted of racketeering and wire fraud conspiracy and sentenced to ten years' imprisonment, and is expected to remain incarcerated in the United States until 2028.
