Avet Terterian
Alfred Roubenovich "Avet" Terterian (also Terteryan) ( hy, Ալֆրեդ "Ավետ" Տերտերյան, July 29, 1929 – December 11, 1994) was an Armenian composer, awarded the Konrad Adenauer Prize. Terterian composed eight (completed) symphonies, several of which are recorded, an opera and several chamber works. Terterian was a friend and colleague of Giya Kancheli, Konstantin Orbelyan, and Tigran Mansurian. Dmitri Shostakovich praised Terterian as "very talented" and "with great future" in one of his letters, published by his friend Isaak Glikman, having heard a recording of Terterian's works at Armenia's "House of Composers" summer resort in Dilijan, Armenia. He studied at the Music Academy in Baku from 1948, and moved to the Romanos-Melikian Music Academy in 1951.He studied composition at the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan from 1952. People's Artist Of The USSR
People's Artist of the USSR ( rus, Народный артист СССР, Narodny artist SSSR), also sometimes translated as National Artist of the USSR, was an honorary title granted to artists of the Soviet Union. Nomenclature and significance The term is confusingly used to translate two Russian language titles: Народный артист СССР (fem. Народная артистка СССР), awarded in performing arts and Народный художник СССР, granted in some visual arts. Each Soviet Republic, as well as the Autonomous Republics (ASSRs), had a similar award held previously by virtually every receiver of the higher title of People's Artist of the USSR. As this title was granted by the government, honorees were afforded certain privileges and would often receive commissions from the Minister of Culture of the Soviet Union. Alfred Schnittke
Alfred Garrievich Schnittke (russian: Альфре́д Га́рриевич Шни́тке, link=no, Alfred Garriyevich Shnitke; 24 November 1934 – 3 August 1998) was a Russian composer of Jewish-German descent. Among the most performed and recorded composers of late 20th-century classical music, he is described by musicologist Ivan Moody as a "composer who was concerned in his music to depict the moral and spiritual struggles of contemporary man in ..depth and detail." Medea Abrahamyan ( hy, Մեդեա Աբրահամյան; 8 March 1932 – 3 March 2021) was an Armenian cellist, People’s Artist of Armenian SSR (1980) and Professor of the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory (1983). Biography Medea Abrahamyan was born in 1932 in Yerevan. She received her musical education at the ten-year Tchaikovsky Music School of Yerevan and later at Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory. In 1956, she graduated from Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory and was one of the students of cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. She was a recipient of awards at the Vihaan International Festival of Arts (2nd Prize, 1955), the First Youth Festival of Armenia (1st Prize, 1957) and the Moscow All-Union Competition for Cellists (1st Prize, 1961).
