Avelina Landín
Avelina Landín Rodríguez (10 November 1919 – 21 February 1991) was a Mexican singer, considered "one of the great and distinctive voices of Mexican bolero music". She was born in Mexico City to Irineo Landín Jauregui and Magdalena Rodríguez Moreno. She was the elder sister of singer María Luisa Landín María Luisa Landín (9 October 1921 – 20 June 2014) was a Mexican singer. She sang bolero, Latin ballad and mariachi styles and was most noted for bolero. María Luisa Landín (9 October 1921 – 20 June 2014) was a Mexican singer. She sang bolero, Latin ballad and mariachi styles and was most noted for bolero. She began her career singing as a duo with her sister, but her most memorable works were as a solo singer after their duet broke up. Her 1949 interpretation of "Amor perdido" by Puerto Rican composer Pedro Flores became her signature song, is the second most frequently played song in the history of the Mexican broadcasting and earned her the title "Queen of the Bolero". She recorded over 150 songs with RCA Records between 1939 and 1967, was a featured artist on La Voz Dominicana Television and appeared as a singer in several movies. Bolero
Bolero is a genre of song which originated in eastern Cuba in the late 19th century as part of the trova tradition. Unrelated to the older Spanish dance of the same name, bolero is characterized by sophisticated lyrics dealing with love. It has been called the "quintessential Latin American romantic song of the twentieth century". Unlike the simpler, thematically diverse ''canción'', bolero did not stem directly from the European lyrical tradition, which included Italian opera and canzone, popular in urban centers like Havana at the time. Instead, it was born as a form of romantic folk poetry cultivated by a new breed of troubadour from Santiago de Cuba, the ''trovadores''. Pepe Sánchez is considered the father of this movement and the author of the first bolero, "Tristezas", written in 1883. XEQ-AM (940 kHz) is a commercial class A clear channel AM radio station in Mexico City. The concession is held by Cadena Radiodifusora Mexicana, S.A. de C.V. and is operated by Radiópolis. XEQ-AM broadcasts from a transmitter located at Los Reyes Acaquilpan, on Boulevard Generalísimo Morelos, east of Mexico City. It currently simulcasts XEQ-FM 92.9. History XEQ began operations in 1938. It was owned by Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta doing business as Radio Panamericana, S.A., and was a network affiliate of CBS Radio as part of the "Chain of the Americas."
