Chuck Avedisian
Charles Toros Avedisian (September 19, 1917 – August 26, 1983) was a professional football player in the National Football League, and later a public school administrator of athletic programs. Early life Born in West Hoboken, New Jersey (now part of Union City) to parents of Armenian descent, Avedisian grew up in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and graduated from Pawtucket Senior High School (now known as the William E. Tolman High School) in 1936. He entered Providence College where he received a B.Phil degree with the class of 1941. He later studied at Columbia University where he received an M.A. degree in 1944 and a Teachers College Professional Diploma in 1953 from Columbia for expertise in supervision of health education and physical education in schools. Edward Avedisian
Edward Avedisian (June 15, 1936 – August 17, 2007) was an American abstract painter who came into prominence during the 1960s. His work was initially associated with Color field painting and in the late 1960s with Lyrical Abstraction. Early career He studied art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. By the late 1950s he moved to New York City. Between 1958 and 1963 Avedisian had six solo shows in New York. In 1958 he initially showed at the Hansa Gallery, then he had three shows at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery and in 1962 and 1963 at the Robert Elkon Gallery. He continued to show at the Robert Elkon Gallery almost every year until 1975. During the 1960s his work was broadly visible in the contemporary art world. One of his paintings appeared on the cover of ''Artforum,'' in 1969, his work was included in the 1965 Op Art '' The Responsive Eye'' exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art and in four annuals at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Scott Avedisian
Scott Avedisian (born January 16, 1965) is an American politician and the former Republican mayor of Warwick, Rhode Island, the third largest city in the state after Providence and Cranston. Avedisian represented Ward 1 in the Warwick City Council from 1990 to 2000, being reelected four times. He was first elected mayor in 2000, and served until 2018. He is the youngest person ever elected as Mayor of Warwick and was the youngest person ever elected to the Warwick City Council. In April 2018, Avedisian announced that he was stepping down from office to become the head of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, better known as RIPTA. Avedisian holds an undergraduate degree from Providence College and a Master of Public Administration degree from Roger Williams University.
