Black Metal
Black metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. Common traits include fast tempos, a shrieking vocal style, heavily distorted guitars played with tremolo picking, raw (lo-fi) recording, unconventional song structures, and an emphasis on atmosphere. Artists often appear in corpse paint and adopt pseudonyms. During the 1980s, several thrash metal and death metal bands formed a prototype for black metal. This "first wave" included bands such as Venom, Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. A second wave arose in the early 1990s, spearheaded by Norwegian bands such as Mayhem, Darkthrone, Burzum, Immortal, Emperor, Satyricon and Gorgoroth. The early Norwegian black metal scene developed the style of their forebears into a distinct genre. Norwegian-inspired black metal scenes emerged throughout Europe and North America, although some other scenes developed their own styles independently. Some prominent Swedish bands spawned during this second wav ...

Mayhem (band)
Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in Langhus in 1984. They were one of the founders of the Norwegian black metal scene and their music has strongly influenced the black metal genre. Mayhem's early career was highly controversial, primarily due to their notorious live performances, the 1991 suicide of vocalist Per Yngve Ohlin ("Dead") and the 1993 murder of guitarist Øystein Aarseth ("Euronymous") by former member Varg Vikernes ("Count Grishnackh") of Burzum. The group released a demo and an EP that were highly influential, and amassed a loyal following through sporadic and notorious live performances, attracting further attention through their ties to the string of Norwegian church burnings and the incidents of violence surrounding them. Mayhem disbanded after Aarseth's murder, shortly before the release of their debut album, '' De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'', regarded as a classic of the black metal genre. Surviving former members Jan Axel Blomberg ("Hellhammer ...

Dødheimsgard
Dødheimsgard (also known as DHG) is a Norwegian extreme metal band formed in 1994. Dødheimsgard originally played black metal, but 1999's '' 666 International'' saw them change their style into experimental and avant-garde/industrial metal. In 2000, they shortened their name to DHG. Their name,"Dødheimsgard" is a contraction of three words: ''Død'' which means 'death', ''heim'' which means 'home' and ''gard'' which means (at least in this context) 'realm'. A natural translation into English would be "Realm of Death". History Founding of the band and ''Kronet til Konge'' (1994–1995) The band was founded in 1994. At the time they consisted of three members: Vicotnik (drums, backing vocals), Fenriz (bass, additional vocals) and Aldrahn (lead vocals and guitar) This line up recorded a promotional demo before releasing their debut album ''Kronet til Konge'' on Malicious Records in 1995. Dystopia Nå!
A dystopia (from Ancient Greek δυσ- "bad, hard" and τόπος "place"; alternatively cacotopiaCacotopia (from κακός ''kakos'' "bad") was the term used by Jeremy Bentham in his 1818 Plan of Parliamentary Reform (Works, vol. 3, p. 493). or simply anti-utopia) is a speculated community or society that is undesirable or frightening. It is often treated as an Opposite (semantics), antonym of ''utopia'', a term that was coined by Sir Thomas More and figures as the title of his best known work, published in 1516, which created a blueprint for an ideal society with minimal crime, violence and poverty. The relationship between utopia and dystopia is in actuality not one simple opposition, as many utopian elements and components are found in dystopias as well, and ''vice versa''. Dystopias are often characterized by rampant fear or distress , tyrannical governments, environmental disaster, or other characteristics associated with a cataclysmic decline in society. Distinct t ...

Diabolical Masquerade
Diabolical Masquerade was a Swedish one-man black metal band with progressive influences. The band was formed in 1993 in Stockholm as side project of Anders Nyström (aka Blakkheim), known for his work as the guitarist of Katatonia. History Diabolical Masquerade was a Swedish one-man black metal band. All music is written and played by Katatonia guitarist Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström, who wanted to have a band where he could compose more extreme music while Katatonia was exploring more mellow moods. The music leans heavily on avant-garde melodic black metal with some death metal and thrash metal influences. Blakkheim wanted to experiment more with song structure, theme and composition. This is most notably seen on the last Diabolical Masquerade album, '' Death's Design''. This album is conceived as the soundtrack to a nonexistent Swedish horror movie, with 61 tracks broken up into 20 movements, each with a unique feel and theme. ''Death's Design'' includes many passages featu ...

Darkspace (band)
Darkspace is a Swiss ambient black metal band from Bern, considered to be a pioneer of the cosmic subset therein. Their lyrical themes revolve around space, darkness and cosmic mysticism, and their music sporadically features isolated samples from space-themed films such as '' 2001: A Space Odyssey'', ''Event Horizon'', '' Alien'' and '' Terminator 2: Judgment Day''. The band does not title their works; each album is titled ''Dark Space'', differentiated only by a subsequent Roman numeral or tally mark indicating order of release—and likewise, each track is titled "Dark" followed by two digits that represent the album number and discography-wise track number respectively, which are separated by a decimal point. As an example, "Dark 3.16" is the sixth track on ''Dark Space III'' but is their sixteenth overall piece. The band's fourth album is titled ''Dark Space III I'' rather than ''Dark Space IV'', possibly to stay true to their oeuvre's otherworldly atmosphere via an abst ...
