Ken McDonald (politician)
Kenneth Joseph McDonald (born June 1959) is a Canadian politician who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for the riding of Avalon, and the former mayor of Conception Bay South, the second largest municipality in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Municipal politics McDonald was Conception Bay South's councillor for Ward 3 from 1993-1996 and from 2009-2013. McDonald unsuccessfully ran for mayor in 2005 against Woodrow French, coming second out of four candidates. On September 24, 2013, McDonald defeated French 3273 votes to 1703 during that year's municipal elections. In April 2015, McDonald threatened to block Nalcor Energy's heavy trucks from using roads in Conception Bay South during the construction at Muskrat Falls for the Lower Churchill Project. Fox Harbour is a small community on the Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland. According to Statistics Canada in 2011, the population was 270. It is surrounded by hills. It is located close to Argentia, the site of the Naval Station Argentia. According to some sources, Fox Harbour got its name from tales of foxes that came down from the surrounding hills and ate the drying fish on the flakes. As well, the community was called Little Glocester before it became officially named Fox Harbour. Ferryland is a town in Newfoundland and Labrador on the Avalon Peninsula. According to the 2021 Statistics Canada census, its population is 371. Seventeenth century settlement Ferryland was originally established as a station for migratory fishermen in the late 16th century but had earlier been used by the French, Spanish, and Portuguese. By the 1590s it was one of the most popular fishing harbours in Newfoundland and acclaimed by Sir Walter Raleigh. Ferryland was called "Farilham" by the Portuguese fishermen and "Forillon" by the French—it later became anglicized to its current name "Ferryland."
