Avalanche Press
Avalanche Press is an American company that publishes board wargames and has published some role-playing game supplements. They have produced '' The Great War at Sea'' and '' ''Panzer Grenadier'' series'', as well as '' Red Parachutes'', one of their earliest games and a detailed study of the Soviet crossing of the Dnepr River in 1943. History Avalanche Press was started in 1994 by Mike Bennighof and Brian Knipple. In 1996, Avalanche Press released the first game in the ''Great War at Sea'' series. Twice, the series has won the Origins Award for the best historical game of the year. They have also received many finalist nominations for the Origins Awards. Avalanche Press was one of the publishers who began producing role-playing game supplements for the d20 System by 2002. Board games are tabletop games that typically use . These pieces are moved or placed on a pre-marked board (playing surface) and often include elements of table, card, role-playing, and miniatures games as well. Many board games feature a competition between two or more players. Plan Z
Plan Z was the name given to the planned re-equipment and expansion of the ''Kriegsmarine'' (German navy) ordered by Adolf Hitler in early 1939. The fleet was meant to challenge the naval power of the United Kingdom, and was to be completed by 1948. Development of the plan began in 1938, but it reflected the evolution of the strategic thinking of the ''Oberkommando der Marine'' (Naval High Command) over the two decades following World War I. The plan called for a fleet centered on ten battleships and four aircraft carriers which were intended to battle the Royal Navy. This force would be supplemented with numerous long-range cruisers that would attack British shipping. A relatively small force of U-boats was also stipulated. When World War II broke out in September 1939, almost no work had been done on the new ships ordered under Plan Z. An airline is a company that provides air transport services for traveling passengers and freight. Airlines use aircraft to supply these services and may form partnerships or alliances with other airlines for codeshare agreements, in which they both offer and operate the same flight. Generally, airline companies are recognized with an air operating certificate or license issued by a governmental aviation body. Airlines may be scheduled or charter operators. The first airline was the German airship company DELAG, founded on November 16, 1909. ''Rise and Decline of the Third Reich'' or more commonly ''Third Reich'' is a grand strategy wargame covering the European theater of World War II, designed by John Prados and released in 1974 by Avalon Hill. Players take on the roles of major powers—Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, France, the Soviet Union, and the United States—from 1939 to 1946. The game was popular because of the balance between economics, politics, and land, sea, air and strategic warfare. Players can try alternate history strategies (''e.g.'', a German invasion of Spain or the United Kingdom). The game is complex and can take many hours to complete. Revised editions of the game were published in the 1980s. ''Second World War at Sea'' is a game series produced by Avalanche Press covering naval combat during World War II. The series is based on Avalanche Press' '' Great War at Sea''. The two series share many features although they are separate both from a rules standpoint and a scale standpoint (see ''SOPAC'' below). Rome At War Series
The ''Rome at War'' series is Avalanche Press' Board wargame series covering ancient land combat. The series started in 2000 with the release of ''Hannibal at Bay''. Games Hannibal at Bay ''Hannibal at Bay'' is the first game in the series and was released in 2000. The game covers the Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage. The original version of the game used hard mounted game boards, which increased the selling price of the game. An updated version of ''Hannibal at Bay'' was announced on May 13, 2008 and was scheduled to be released in June 2008. This game will use cardstock game boards (like those in the ''Panzer Grenadier'' series) to reduce the price of the game. This version game is designed to be an entry point for the series, just like ''Airborne'' is for ''Panzer Grenadier''. Eagle is the common name for many large birds of prey of the family Accipitridae. Eagles belong to several groups of genera, some of which are closely related.
