''Avalanche'' is the third studio album by the Australian indie rock band British India, released through Shock Records on 30 April 2010. Four bootleg live studio demos were released for sale in a package with the album at JB Hi-Fi. The album debuted at number 10 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Reception ''The Sydney Morning Heralds Patrick Donovan gave the album a 3.5/5 rating, saying it "affirms British India's position as one of the most solid rock bands in the country." British India (band)
British India are an Australian rock band from Melbourne. The band is made up of lead vocalist and guitarist Declan Melia, guitarist Nic Wilson, bassist Will Drummond and drummer Matt O'Gorman. In 2019, Jack Tosi replaced Nic Wilson as a touring member of the band. They have released six studio albums. History Formation and Early Shows 2003 - 2006 The members of British India met in 2003 in high school at St. Bede's College, in Melbourne, Victoria. The band began rehearsing and writing songs in the pool room at drummer Matt O'Gorman's parent's house. Early influences included The Strokes, The White Stripes, The Datsuns, and Interpol. Upon finishing high school, the band began gigging extensively at pub and club shows throughout Melbourne. In 2005 the band recorded a vinyl seven inch single called "Outside 109" with producer Lindsay Gravina at his Birdland studios. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Shock Records (now part of Shock Entertainment) is an Australian independent record label. History The three founding members had all previously worked in music retail or distribution: Williams for a Melbourne distribution company called "Musicland", Falvo for Exposure Records and McGee for Greville Records. ''Thieves'' is the second studio album by Australian indie rock band British India, released on 19 July 2008, but also sold early by the band at album launch parties. The album was co-produced by Harry Vanda and Glenn Goldsmith. It peaked at No. 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart. ''Thieves'' was selected as Triple J's Feature Album in that month, beating both The Vines' album '' Melodia'' as well as The Living End's album ''White Noise''. Australian indie rock is part of the overall flow of Australian rock history but has a distinct history somewhat separate from mainstream rock in Australia, largely from the end of the punk rock era onwards. History Beginnings Rock and roll in Australia got started in the late 1950s and 1960s, influenced by the sounds coming from the United States and UK. Early on, the surf rock sound dominated, though in the mid-1960s, the beat genre from the UK had become established. Numerous garage bands formed in the cities and suburbs, and a vibrant musical culture began. Isolated from the diversity of genres in the northern hemisphere, Australian mainstream record labels tried to replicate the success of trends imported from overseas and produce radio friendly singles by successful artists such as John Farnham and The Easybeats. A bootleg recording is an audio or video recording of a performance not officially released by the artist or under other legal authority. Making and distributing such recordings is known as ''bootlegging''. Recordings may be copied and traded among fans without financial exchange, but some bootleggers have sold recordings for profit, sometimes by adding professional-quality sound engineering and packaging to the raw material. Bootlegs usually consist of unreleased studio recordings, live performances or interviews without the quality control of official releases.
