Avadhanam
Avadhānaṃ is a literary performance popular from the very ancient days in India. Avadhānaṃ originated as a Sanskrit literary process and is revived in modern times by poets in Telugu primarily. Garikapati Narasimha Rao
Garikipati Narasimha Rao is an Indian Telugu Avadhani (literary performer) from Andhra Pradesh, India. Avadhanis are respected for their abilities to spin out verses conforming to Telugu grammar on literally any subject that audience may throw at them, as a challenge. In 1996 he performed Avadhanam with 1116 ''Pruchchakas or Pricchakas'' for 21 days in Kakinada. He also delivers lectures on personality development based on Dharmic culture and way of life. He regularly appears on Telugu TV channels like SVBC, Bhakti TV, and ABN Andhra Jyothi giving discourses on Ancient Hindu texts like Bhagavadgita Balavikaasam, Ramayana, and Mahabharata. Asavadi Prakasarao
Asavadi Prakasarao (2 August 1944 – 17 February 2022) was an Indian poet, critic, translator and scholar, who is known for his poetry and prose works. He is noted for his significant contribution to Telugu and Sanskrit literature. In January 2021, he was awarded India's fourth-highest civilian award the Padma Shri in the Arts and Literature category. As Ashtavadhani, he has given 170 performances and has written and published 50 books across various genres. His most notable literary contribution is his performance of Avadhanam – a literary performance. He has received an honorary D Litt from Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University and a Distinguished Teacher award from the Department of Higher Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh. Shrimad Rajchandra
Shrimad Rajchandra (11 November 1867 – 9 April 1901) was a Jain poet, mystic, philosopher, scholar and reformer. Born in Vavaniya, a village near Morbi, he claimed to have recollection of his past lives at the age of seven. He performed ''Avadhāna'', a memory retention and recollection test that gained him popularity, but he later discouraged it in favour of his spiritual pursuits. He wrote much philosophical poetry including ''Atma Siddhi''. He also wrote many letters and commentaries and translated some religious texts. Sheikh Thambi Pavalar (1874–1950) was a Tamil poet, scholar and an Indian independence activist. Early life Pavalar was born on 31 July 1874 at Edalakudy in Nagercoil, Kanyakumari District, as the third son of Pakeer Meeran sahib and Ameena. He had his earlier education at Edalakudy. Sheikh Thambi Pavalar was a good orator. He learned Arabic language in his early age and was a disciple of Sankaranarayana Pattariar, a Tamil scholar who lived at Kottar (near Edalakudy). Madugula Nagaphani Sarma
Madugula is a village in Anakapalli district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. It was also known as Vaddadi or Vaddadimadugula and was founded by the rulers of the Matsya dynasty. Gadiyaram Ramakrishna Sarma (6th March, 1919 - 25th July, 2006) was a Telugu writer, Sanskrit scholar, researcher, reformist and historian. Sarma won the Kendra Sahitya Academy Award in Telugu for the Year 2007 for his autobiography: ''Satapatram'' ("A Hundred Petals"). In his ''Hundred Petals'', Sarma devoted very little space to write about himself but penned what he had seen during his nine-decade-long life.
