Autovía A-55
The Autovía A-55 (also known as ''Autovía del Atlántico'') is an autovía in Galicia (Spain). It is 32 km (20 miles) long and runs from the centre of Vigo to the Portugal–Spain border, on the Minho River at Tui, where it connects to the A3 motorway (Portugal). The A-55 runs parallel to the Autopista AP-9 for much of its length, and also connects with the Autovía A-52 at the town of O Porriño. Between Vigo and O Porriño, the autovía is an upgrade of the N-120 road, and between O Porriño and the Portuguese border it is an upgrade of the N-550. Tui (; Spanish: ''Tuy'') is a municipality in the province of Pontevedra in the autonomous community of Galicia, in Spain. It is situated in the ''comarca'' of O Baixo Miño. An ''autovía'' is one of two classes of major highway in the Spanish road system similar to a British motorway or an American freeway. It is akin to the autopista, the other major highway class, but has fewer features and is never a toll road. Some distinguishing features of an ''autovía'' are that it must be divided by a median, it must have restricted access, and it cannot be crossed by other roads. While autopistas are generally new routes, ''autovías'' are normally improvements to existing roads, so they may have tighter curves and less safe accesses, often with shorter acceleration lanes. Minho River
The Minho ( , ) or Miño ( , , ; cel-x-proto, Miniu) is the longest river in Galicia, sharing the border with Portugal, with a length of . The AP-9 or ''Autoestrada do Atlántico'' is a toll motorway in Galicia, Spain. It starts in A Coruña and runs south past the cities of Santiago de Compostela, Pontevedra and Vigo, before ending at the town of Tui, a few kilometres north of the Portuguese border at the Minho River. Autovía A-52
The A-52 is a highway in northwestern Spain. It starts at Vigo heads east from the town crossing the Autopista AP-9 and then the N-550 (Carretera), N-550/Autovía A-55. It then goes over the Rio Tea running parallel to the N-120 (Carretera), N-120 and along the Rio Miño. At Ourense the road turns south out of the valley in conjunction with the N-525 (Carretera), N-525. It passes over the Alto de Allariz (725m) and Alto de Estivadas (900m). O Porriño
O Porriño (historically known in English as ) is a municipality in Galicia (Spain), Galicia, Spain in the province of Pontevedra (province), Pontevedra. N-120 Road (Spain)
The N-120 is a highway in northern Spain. It goes from Vigo to the Ebro Valley. Starting on the Rías Bajas at Vigo, the city is connected on the Autopista AP-9, the Autovía A-57, Autovía A-55 and N-550. The N-120 heads east into the Sierra del Suido past the Mondariz Baneario and the Puerto de Fontefría (790m). Most traffic now takes the Autovía A-52, both roads enter the valley of Rio Miño to Ourense. The A-52 heads south with the N-525. Roads in Portugal are defined by the Plano Rodoviário Nacional (PRN, en, National Road Plan), which describes the existing and planned network of Portuguese roads.
