Autoclave (band)
Autoclave was an American indie rock band, based in Washington, D.C. Their releases were on local label Dischord Records. Formed in the summer of 1990, the group consisted of vocalist and bassist Christina Billotte, lead guitarist Mary Timony, guitarist Nikki Chapman, and drummer Melissa Berkoff.Strong, Martin C. Quix*o*tic
Quix*o*tic was a rock band active from 1997 to 2002 in the area of Washington, D.C., United States. They were known for their blend of R&B and doo wop with a Gothic outlook. History Quix*o*tic formed in 1997. The original line-up was guitarist/vocalist Christina Billotte, drummer/vocalist Mira Billotte, and bassist/vocalist Brendan Majewski. Majewski left in 2001 and was replaced by Mick Barr. The band broke up in 2003 with Mira moving to NYC to form White Magic. The band was well received and opened for Fugazi at their last U.S. show to date on July 1, 2002, at Fort Reno Park in Washington, D.C. The group also toured with Papa M, Will Oldham, and extensively with Sonic Youth. The band played the Sonic Youth-curated All Tomorrow's Parties Festival in Los Angeles in March 2002. Dischord Records is a Washington, D.C.-based independent record label specializing in punk rock. The label is co-owned by Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson, who founded Dischord in 1980 to release ''Minor Disturbance'' by their band The Teen Idles. The compact disc (CD) is a Digital media, digital optical disc data storage format that was co-developed by Philips and Sony to store and play digital audio recordings. In August 1982, the first compact disc was manufactured. It was then released in October 1982 in Japan and branded as ''Compact Disc Digital Audio, Digital Audio Compact Disc''. The format was later adapted (as CD-ROM) for general-purpose data storage. Autoclave (album)
''Autoclave'' is a posthumous compilation album by the indie math rock band Autoclave. The CD-only release compiles their two Mira/Dischord EPs (originally released as one 7″ and one 10″), their song from the Simple Machines Records ''Lever'' compilation 7″, plus the live favorite ''Paper Boy'' – a cover of the theme song from the video game of the same name. It was released by Dischord Records in 1997, and was later remastered at Silver Sonya Studios and reissued in 2002 by Dischord and Mira Records. A 12" vinyl LP version was released in 2019. Riot grrrl is an underground feminist punk movement that began during the early 1990s within the United States in Olympia, Washington and the greater Pacific Northwest and has expanded to at least 26 other countries. Riot grrrl is a subcultural movement that combines feminism, punk music, and politics. It is often associated with third-wave feminism, which is sometimes seen as having grown out of the riot grrrl movement and has recently been seen in fourth-wave feminist punk music that rose in the 2010s. The genre has also been described as coming out of indie rock, with the punk scene serving as an inspiration for a movement in which women could express anger, rage, and frustration, emotions considered socially acceptable for male songwriters but less common for women. Elisabeth Vincentelli is a French-born, New York-based arts and culture journalist. She is a regular contributor to ''The New York Times’ Arts section''.
