''Authority'' is the fifth studio album by British electronic music group Client, released on 21 March 2014 through German electronic music label Out of Line Music. Background After former singer Sarah Blackwood's (alias Client B) retreat from the band in December 2010, band leader Kate Holmes remained the only member of Client. The band announced that "Kate Holmes is likely to continue with the band's activities after taking a short break" and would look out for "a brand new Client to front the band." In July 2011, Holmes introduced Xan Tyler as the new live singer of Client. Both musicians had collaborated before, forming synthpop group Technique in the late 1990s. However, since Client didn't release another album any time soon after the announcement and thus didn't go on tour, the collaboration never happened. Client (band)
Client (frequently stylised as CLIEͶT) are an English electronic music group from London, formed in 2002. They are most popular in Germany where they have had limited commercial success. They typically combine airline hostess uniforms or shiny fetish fashion outfits with glamour-girl aesthetics and harsh electronics to create a sound reminiscent of early forays into electronic sound manipulation and new wave. Their uniforms have become their trademark. Synthpop
Synth-pop (short for synthesizer pop; also called techno-pop; ) is a subgenre of new wave music that first became prominent in the late 1970s and features the synthesizer as the dominant musical instrument. It was prefigured in the 1960s and early 1970s by the use of synthesizers in progressive rock, electronic, art rock, disco, and particularly the Krautrock of bands like Kraftwerk. It arose as a distinct genre in Japan and the United Kingdom in the post-punk era as part of the new wave movement of the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. Electronic musical synthesizers that could be used practically in a recording studio became available in the mid-1960s, and the mid-1970s saw the rise of electronic art musicians. Xan Tyler
Xan Tyler is a British pop singer. Career Born and raised in South London, Tyler began her singing career as a backing singer. After working with numerous bands and as a session singer, she signed to Alan McGee's Creation Records as one half of synth pop duo Technique (the other half being musician Kate Holmes, now of Client). In 1999, Tyler and Kate Holmes collaborated with Mad Professor to create Mission Control. Mission Control released one album, ''Dub Showcase'' on Poptones and Tyler joined Mad Professor on a European tour in 2000. ''Dub Showcase'' also featured a guest vocal from Lee "Scratch" Perry. 1999 also saw Tyler's first notable success as Technique with the release of "Sun is Shining", released on Creation Records, which reached number 64 in the UK Singles Chart in April of that year, followed by "You & Me" which got to number 56 in August. Sarah Blackwood
Sarah Blackwood (born 6 May 1971) is an English recording artist. She came to prominence as the lead singer of Dubstar, and as Client B in the band Client (band), Client. Career Blackwood was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, attended a local school, and went to Newcastle University to study interior design. She lived in Manchester when operating exclusively within Dubstar, but lives and works in London as of 2015. Dubstar Formerly known as The Joans, Dubstar were initially a two-piece band, with Chris Wilkie on guitar and Steve Hillier on vocals and keyboards. Sarah Blackwood was invited to join the band in August 1993 and replaced Hillier on vocals in early 1994; Dubstar were signed shortly after.
