Autar Singh Paintal
Autar Singh Paintal (24 September 1925 – 21 December 2004) was a medical scientist who made pioneering discoveries in the area of neurosciences and respiratory sciences. He is the first Indian Physiologist to become the Fellow of the Royal Society, London. He was a merit student and did his post graduation in physiology from King George Medical College, Lucknow. Paintal completed his PhD under the supervision of David Whitteridge at the University of Edinburgh. His major contribution to the world of science is the development of a single-fiber technique for recording afferent impulses from individual sensory receptors. Paintal discovered several sensory receptors including atrial B receptors, pulmonary J-receptors, ventricular pressure receptors, stomach stretch receptors, and muscle pain receptors. Mogok
Mogok (, ; Shan: , ) is a town in the Thabeikkyin District of Mandalay Region of Myanmar, located north of Mandalay and north-east of Shwebo. History Mogok is believed to have been founded in 1217 by three lost Shan hunters who discovered rubies at the base of a collapsed mountain. According to the tale, the hunters returned to their home in Momeik and offered the precious stones to the local saopha who established a village in what would become modern-day Mogok. Following the 1885 Third Anglo-Burmese War in which the British conquered and annexed the hitherto independent Upper Burma, in 1886 the British launched a military expedition to "open up" the ruby mines at Mogok and make them available to British merchants. Dr. Ashima Anand is the principal investigator and principal scientific officer in Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, New Delhi. She has an expertise in respiratory medicine. Priti Paintal
Priti Paintal (born 1960) is an East Indian composer, performer, music producer and promoter who lives and works in England. Life Paintal was born in New Delhi, India, the daughter of the distinguished Indian scientist Autar Singh Paintal. She trained in both Indian and Western music and studied sitar and tabla as a child and piano and composition in India. Paintal received a master's degree in ethnomusicology before moving to England to study composition at York University and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Anthony Gilbert. She founded the ensemble ShivaNova in 1988 to unite diverse musical traditions into a global sound. The ensemble collaborates with artists including storytellers, jugglers, dancers and orchestras, and provides workshops in schools and communities.
