Austrian Sportspersonality Of The Year
The Austrian Sports Personality of the Year is chosen annually since 1949. Recordholders are Annemarie Moser-Pröll (seven awards) and Marcel Hirscher (six awards). In 1978 and 1979 the Austria national football team was named Austrian Sports Team of the Year. Since 1990 this prize is included in the annual election. Annemarie Moser-Pröll
Annemarie Moser-Pröll (born 27 March 1953) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from Austria. Born in Kleinarl, Salzburg, she was the most successful female alpine ski racer during the 1970s, with six overall titles, including five consecutive. Moser-Pröll celebrated her biggest successes in downhill, giant slalom and combined races. In 1980, her last year as a competitor, she secured her third Olympic medal (and first gold) at Lake Placid and won five World Cup races. Her younger sister Cornelia Pröll is also a former Olympic alpine skier. Career During her career, Moser-Pröll won the overall World Cup title a record six times, including five consecutive (1971–75). She has 62 individual World Cup victories, third behind Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin on the female side. Trude Klecker (born 7 February 1926) is an Austrian alpine skier and world champion. She is from Semmering and later lived in Trieste in Italy. Karl Schranz
Karl Schranz (born 18 November 1938) is a former champion Alpine skiing, alpine ski racer from Austria, one of the best of the 1960s and early 1970s. Born and raised in Sankt Anton am Arlberg, St. Anton, Tyrol (state), Tyrol, Schranz had a lengthy ski career, from 1957 to 1972. He won twenty major Downhill (ski competition), downhills, many major giant slalom races and several major Slalom skiing, slaloms. Adolf Christian
Adolf Christian (3 June 1934 in Vienna – 8 July 1999 in Vienna) was an Austrian professional road bicycle racer. In 1957, Christian finished 3rd place in the general classification of the Tour de France, and he is the only Austrian to legitimately reach the podium. (In 2008 Bernhard Kohl also reached 3rd position but was later disqualified for doping.) In January 1958, he became Sportsman of the Year 1957. His profession was a decorator in his own company. Toni Sailer
Anton Engelbert "Toni" Sailer (17 November 1935 – 24 August 2009) was an Austrian alpine ski racer, considered among the best in the sport. At age 20, he won all three gold medals in alpine skiing at the 1956 Winter Olympics. He nearly duplicated the feat at the 1958 World Championships with two golds and a silver. He also won world titles both years in the combined, then a "paper" race, but awarded with medals by the International Ski Federation (FIS). Career Born and raised in Kitzbühel in Tyrol, Sailer was nicknamed "Blitz from Kitz" (Blitz = German word for "bolt of lightning" or "flash"). Gerhard Hanappi (16 February 1929 – 23 August 1980) was an Austrian football midfielder who is often regarded as one of the greatest Austrian footballers. He is also the father of Hardy Hanappi. Club career A versatile midfielder, Hanappi started his career at SC Wacker Wien, where he made his Bundesliga debut in 1947.
