Alpine Skiing At The 1992 Winter Olympics – Men's Downhill
The Men's Downhill competition of the Albertville 1992 Olympics was held at Val d'Isère on Sunday, 9 February. The defending world champion was Franz Heinzer of Switzerland, who was also the defending World Cup downhill champion and led the current season. Defending Olympic champion Pirmin Zurbriggen of Switzerland had retired from competition two years earlier; this was the fourth consecutive Olympics without the defending champion in the field. The race was run on a new course on ''La Face de Bellevarde'', designed by 1972 champion Bernhard Russi. Austria's Patrick Ortlieb, who had yet to win a World Cup event, won the gold medal; Franck Piccard of France was only 0.05 seconds back to take the silver, and the bronze medalist was Günther Mader of Austria. Andreas Felder
Andreas Felder (born 6 March 1962) is an Austrian former ski jumper. During this period he dominated the sport, together with contemporaries Jens Weißflog and Matti Nykänen. He finished in the top three overall six times in the World Cup and won the 1990/91 overall. He won his first international championship medal at the 1982 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo with a silver medal in the team large hill event. Career His big breakthrough came in the 1984/85 season. In December that year he won the World cup competition in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. He won six competitions in that season, but ended in 2nd place overall behind Matti Nykänen. At the 1985 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld, he won silver medals both in the individual normal hill and the team large hill. Martin Höllwarth
Martin Höllwarth (born 13 April 1974) is an Austrian former ski jumper. Career At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, he won three silver medals. At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, he won bronze in the team large hill competition. Höllwarth's biggest successes were at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships where he earned six medals, including three golds (team normal hill in 2001 and 2005; team large hill in 2005) and three bronzes (individual normal hill in 2001; team large hill in 1999 and 2001). Ernst Vettori (born 25 June 1964) is an Austrian former ski jumper. Career He won the Four Hills Tournament twice (1985/1986 and 1986/1987).
