Australian Screen Editors
Australian Screen Editors (ASE) was founded in 1996 by Henry Dangar (who became its first president) and Jenny Ward. The guild is "dedicated to the pursuit and recognition of excellence in the arts, sciences and technology of motion picture and televisual post production. It aims to promote, improve and protect the role of editor as an essential and significant contributor to all screen productions." The current President of ASE is Fiona Strain. Immediate past presidents include Deborah Peart, Dany Cooper, Jason Ballantine, Karen Pearlman, Lindi Harrison and Peter Whitmore. It currently has about 500 members in all Australian states, predominantly in NSW and Victoria. Membership Applications for ASE membership are invited from professional screen editors, assistant editors, students of screen editing and associated film industry professionals. Henry Dangar (film Editor)
Henry Dangar (1796–1861) was a surveyor and European land exploration of Australia, explorer of Australia in the early period of British colonisation. He became a successful pastoralist and businessman, and also served as a magistrate and politician. From 1845 to 1851 Dangar was a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Council. Early life He was born on 18 November 1796 at St Neot, Cornwall, United Kingdom, and was the first of six brothers to emigrate as free settlers to the Colony of New South Wales. Government surveyor and explorer Soon after arrival in the ''Jessie'' on 2 April 1821 he was appointed assistant government surveyor under John Oxley, and employed in the counties of Camden, New South Wales, Camden and Argyle County, Argyle. The Invisible Man (2020 Film)
''The Invisible Man'' is a 2020 science fiction horror film written and directed by Leigh Whannell. Inspired by H. G. Wells' novel of the same name, it stars Elisabeth Moss as a woman who believes she is being stalked and gaslit by her seemingly deceased ex-boyfriend (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) after he acquires the ability to become invisible. Aldis Hodge, Storm Reid, Harriet Dyer, and Michael Dorman appear in supporting roles. Development on a contemporary film adaptation of the novel began in 2006, but was halted in 2011. An attempt at reviving the project in 2016 as part of Universal Pictures' cinematic Dark Universe was also cancelled following the critical and financial failure of ''The Mummy'' in 2017. ''Lion'' is a 2016 Australian biographical drama film directed by Garth Davis (in his feature directorial debut) from a screenplay by Luke Davies based on the 2013 non-fiction book '' A Long Way Home'' by Saroo Brierley. ''Jirga'' (, meaning "meeting") is a 2018 Australian drama film written and directed by Benjamin Gilmour and produced by John Maynard. It stars Sam Smith as a former Australian soldier returning to Afghanistan to seek forgiveness from the family of a man he killed while serving in the war. The film was shot under extreme circumstances, in dangerous locations and with assistance from the local people of Afghanistan. Deemed too politically divisive to be produced in Pakistan the film moved production at the last minute to Afghanistan and shot in one of the most dangerous regions in the world, Kandahar Province. Gilmour sought to create a film which showed the beauty of the Afghan country and people as well as highlight the detrimental impact of the War in Afghanistan on Western and Afghan people. Tim Guthrie
Timothy Sean Guthrie (born 1965 in Omaha, Nebraska) is a visual artist and experimental filmmaker. Guthrie's work is in collections throughout the United States, including the Boise Art Museum, and the Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art, Plemmons Collection of Contemporary Art, (Boone, North Carolina), and the Leigh Lane Edwards Collection of Contemporary Art, ( Appalachian State University). Tim Guthrie gave a TEDxOmaha talk in October 2018 about ''An Artist's Journey Through Love and Loss''. The talk focused on the death of his wife in 2015, and his grieving process, as well as the mini-documentary he created about her, called ''Missing Piece'', which won numerous national and International awards.
