Australian Karate Federation
Australian Karate Federation is the governing body for the sport of Karate in Australia. Brief history Soon after the Australian Karate Federation was established in 1970, the National team represented Australia in the inaugural World Karate Championships staged in Japan the same year. After a humble start the Federation achieved a substantial number of members and kept growing with a membership of 123 affiliated styles. The Federation in its initial years was headed by Don Cameron MP as President. The Federation thrived under the leadership of Cameron, who initiated the first two National Teams and paving the way for further development of sport karate in Australia. His successor John Newman worked hard to uplift the Federation and further strengthened it. The Federation gained further impetus from subsequent Presidents like John Halpin (1993 – 2007), and Michael Kassis (2007). World Karate Federation
The World Karate Federation (WKF) is the largest international governing body of sport karate with 198 member countries. It was formed in 1990, is the only karate organization recognised by the International Olympic Committee and has more than ten million members. The WKF organizes the Junior and Senior Karate World Championships, which are each held every other year. The President of the WKF is Antonio Espinos, and the headquarters are located in Madrid, Spain. All the styles are officially recognised by the WKF. World Karate Championships
The Karate World Championships, also known as the World Karate Championships, are the highest level of competition for karate organized by the World Karate Federation (WKF). The competition is held in a different city every two years. Championships in the 2000s included Madrid in 2002, Monterrey in 2004, Tampere in 2006, Tokyo in 2008, and Belgrade in 2010. John Newman (Australian Politician)
John Paul Newman (born Johann Grauenig, formerly Naumenko; 8 December 1946 – 5 September 1994) was an Australian politician who served as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1986 until his death. He was 47 when he was shot and killed outside his home in Cabramatta. Phuong Ngo, a local club owner and political opponent who had run against Newman as an independent in 1991, was convicted of Newman's murder in 2001.
