Australia At The 2022 Winter Paralympics
Australia competed at the 2022 Winter Paralympics in Beijing, China which took place between 4–13 March 2022. A team of ten athletes including two guides was announced on 2 February 2022 with two athletes - Rae Anderson and Josh Hanlon making their Winter Paralympics debut. Jonty O'Callaghan withdrew from the team after a severe training accident on 17 February 2022. Anderson represented Australia in athletics at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. Melissa Perrine and Ben Tudhope were appointed team captains. Administration Kate McLoughlin served as the Chef de Mission. McLoughlin is first woman hold the position for an Australian Winter Paralympics team and was the Chef de Mission for Australian teams at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Paralympics. Paralympics Australia (PA) previously called the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) (1998–2019) is the National Paralympic Committee in Australia for the Paralympic Games movement. It oversees the preparation and management of Australian teams that participate at the Summer Paralympics and the Winter Paralympics. Australia At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
Australia participated at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, from 24 August to 5 September 2021. It sent its largest away team - 179 athletes to a Summer Paralympics. Australia finished eighth on the gold medal table and sixth on the total medals table. In May 2017, Paralympics Australia announced Kate McLoughlin as the Chef de Mission, McLoughlin held the position at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. In November 2019, wheelchair rugby player Ryley Batt and table tennis player Daniela di Toro, were named as co-captains. They were also named as joint flag bearers at the Opening Ceremony. Ellie Cole was the flag bearer at the Closing Ceremony. Cole became Australia's most decorated female Paralympian during the Games with her silver and bronze medals in swimming taking her to 17 Paralympic medals. LW6/8 is a para-alpine and para-Nordic standing skiing ''sport class'', a classification defined by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) for people with an upper extremity issue who have paralysis, motor paresis affecting one arm, a single upper arm amputation or CP8 classified cerebral palsy. LW6/8 skiers use two skis and one pole in both para-alpine and para-Nordic skiing. Skiers in this class include 2006 New Zealand Winter Paralympian Anthony Field, Germany's Thomas Oelsner and Australia's Mitchell Gourley. B2 (classification)
B2 is a medical based Paralympic classification for blind sport. Competitors in this classification have vision that falls between the B1 and B3 classes. The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) defines this classification as "visual acuity ranging from LogMAR 1.50 to 2.60 (inclusive) and/or visual field constricted to a diameter of less than 10 degrees." It is used by a number of blind sports including para-alpine skiing, para-Nordic skiing, blind cricket, blind golf, five-a-side football, goalball and judo. Some sports, including adaptive rowing, athletics and swimming, have equivalents to this class. The B2 classification was first created by the IBSA in the 1970s, and has largely remained unchanged since despite an effort by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to move towards a more functional and evidence-based classification system. Bobbi Kelly (born 6 February 1994) is an Australian skier and sighted guide for visually impaired skiers. She was Melissa Perrine's guide at the 2022 Winter Paralympics. Skiing Kelly's home ski resort of Perisher, New South Wales. She has a Level 4 Australian Professional Snowsport Instructors Inc (APSI) and is a Level 1/2 Trainer for APSI. Kelly is the guide for Paralympic skier Melissa Perrine. Perrine with Kelly won the gold medal in the women's Super Combined Visually Impaired, silver medals in the women's giant slalom and Women's Super G Visually Impaired and the bronze medal in the women's slalom visually impaired at 2019 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.
