The men's 5000 metres at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Beijing National Stadium on 26 and 29 August. Summary It was difficult to predict the results. Down at number 21 was the double Olympic Champion, defending champion attempting to repeat his double from two years earlier, Mo Farah, undoubtedly the favorite. The men's discus throw at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Beijing National Stadium on 27 and 29 August. Three time defending champion Robert Harting and his exuberant celebrations would not be here due to knee surgery, opening up opportunities for others. Returning silver medalist Piotr Małachowski is the world leader hoping to move up a notch. In the trials, it took Fedrick Dacres one toss to make an automatic qualifier, Małachowski took three attempts to do, but nobody else could get there. Benn Harradine
Benn Harradine (born 14 October 1982) is a retired Australian discus thrower who competed at three consecutive Olympic Games, starting in 2008. Harradine made the final of the discus at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne where he finished eighth. He went on to win the 2010 Commonwealth title. His 5th-place finish at the 2011 World Championships is the best ever finish by an Australian man in the event. He announced his retirement after the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast where he finished sixth. He has broken the Australian record three times, his personal best being 68.20 metres thrown in Townsville in May 2013. He is an indigenous athlete from the Wotjobaluk tribe in the Wimmera district of Victoria. He cites land rights activist Vincent Lingiari as one of the people he admires. Brandon Starc
Brandon Starc (born 24 November 1993) is a professional Australian high jumper. Starc currently trains in Sydney, Australia, under the guidance of his coach Alex Stewart. As a national representative and high achieving athlete, Starc is supported and represented through the New South Wales and Australian Institutes of Sport. As a 16 year old he won a silver medal at the inaugural 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore with a +9 cm personal best of 2.19m. Starc won his first National Senior Athletics Championships title in 2012 with 2.28m, going on to qualify as a finalist at the 2012 World Junior Athletics Championships, Starc has also competed in the finals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the 2015 World Athletics Championships, and the 2016 Summer Olympics. In the trials, only nine were able to get over 2.31, so they took perfect to 2.29 to fill out the field. Joel Baden
Joel Baden (born 1 February 1996) is an Australian high jumper. A member of Australia's track and field squad at the 2015 IAAF World Championships and 2016 Summer Olympics, he cleared an extraordinary 2.29-metre mark twice as his personal best at the 2014 junior national meet in Melbourne, and at the North Queensland Games in Cairns two months before his maiden Games. Baden currently trains for the University of Melbourne's athletics club under the tutelage of his coach and mentor Sandro Bisetto. Dane Bird-Smith
Dane Alex Bird-Smith (born 15 July 1992) is an Australian racewalking athlete. He competes in the 20 kilometres race walk, and has a best of 1:19:28 hours for the distance, set in 2017. He competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he was the bronze medallist. Bird-Smith represented Australia at the World Championships in Athletics three times (2013, 2015, and 2017), and has appeared four times at the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships/Cup.
