Australian Commonwealth Games Association
Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) is the Commonwealth Games Association for Australia, and is responsible for representing and promoting the Commonwealth Sport movement in the country, and organises the participation of athletes at the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games. It changed it name from the Australian Commonwealth Games Association to Commonwealth Games Australia in 2015. The Commonwealth Games have been held in Australia five times, most recently the 2018 Commonwealth Games were held on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Ion Popa (born 2 February 1957) is a Romanian-born, former Australian representative rower – a national champion, world champion, dual Olympian and Olympic medal winner. Personal Born in Romania, Popa rowed for his country of birth and was a member of the Romanian police force prior to his 1978 defection to Australia. James Bruce Tomkins, (born 19 August 1965) is an Australian rower, seven-time World Champion and a three-time Olympic gold medalist. Mark Doyle (born 29 May 1963) is an Australian former national champion, World Champion, Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning rower. Club and state rowing Doyle was born in Melbourne and commenced his rowing career at Xavier College. His senior rowing was with Mercantile Rowing Club where his father Brian Doyle was a club stalwart and coach. Doyle represented Victoria at the Australian Rowing Championships in the men's Interstate Eight-Oared Championship – the King's Cup on six occasions from 1982 to 1988. Andrew Dollman Cooper (born 23 December 1964) is a former Australian Olympic Champion and World Champion rower. He is a national champion, dual Olympian and two-time World Champion who achieved success as a member of Australia's "Oarsome Foursome" in 1991 and 1992. Malcolm William Batten (born 12 March 1964) is an Australian former state and national champion, World Champion, Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning rower. Club and state rowing Batten was born in Tasmania and commenced his rowing career in 1979 as a coxswain with the North Esk Rowing Club in Launceston. He rowed for a season in 1982 with the Tweed Heads Rowing Club prior to moving to Brisbane and joining the Commercial Rowing Club. Dean Anthony Woods OAM (22 June 1966 – 3 March 2022) was an Australian racing cyclist from Wangaratta in Victoria known for his track cycling at the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games. On Australia Day 1985 he was awarded the Order of Australia medal for service to cycling. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. Career At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, Woods, with teammates Michael Grenda, Kevin Nichols and Michael Turtur, won the 4000m team pursuit. Critics did not give them much chance. The team was coached by Charlie Walsh and dubbed "Charlie's Angels". Bill Hardy (cyclist)
Nelson 'Bill' Hardy (1905–1993) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1920s and 1930s. Hardy was playing first grade in the NSWRFL premiership for his side, the Eastern Suburbs club, at just 18 years of age. An accomplished or Hardy played 87 matches for Easts in the years 1925–30. In 1928, Hardy was a member of the Eastern Suburbs side that was defeated by South Sydney in that year's premiership decider. On 22 December 1928 Hardy took place in rugby league first night match, an exhibition match between that year's finalists Easts and Souths. Hardy played in three tests for the Australia national rugby league team in the 1928 season against a touring Great Britain side and was a representative of New South Wales on 15 occasions throughout his career.
