Noel Freeman
Noel Frederick Freeman (born 24 December 1938) is an Australian former athlete who competed mainly in the 20 kilometre walk. Born in Preston, Victoria, Frederick competed for Australia in the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome in the 20 kilometre walk where he won the silver medal. He was disqualified in the longer 50 km event whilst in the leading group. Four years later he took fourth in the 20 km event in Tokyo. Tony Madigan
Antony Morgan "Tony" Madigan (4 February 1930 – 29 October 2017) was an Australian boxer and rugby player. He competed in boxing at the 1952, 1956 and 1960 Olympics and finished in fifth, fifth and third place, respectively. In 1960 Madigan lost his semi-final to Muhammad Ali. He also won medals at three Commonwealth Games in the light-heavyweight division – a silver in 1954 and gold in 1958 and 1962. Tony was the 2010 Inductee for the Australian National Boxing Hall of Fame Veterans category. Oliver Taylor (born 19 February 1938) is a retired Australian amateur bantamweight boxer. David Power (athlete)
David William Power (14 July 1928 – 1 February 2014) was an Australian athlete who competed mainly in the 10,000 metres during his career. Born in Maitland, New South Wales, he competed for Australia in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne and the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome, Italy in the 10,000 metres where he won the bronze medal. Geoffrey Shipton
Geoffrey Lloyd Shipton (born 4 June 1941) is an Australian former sprint freestyle swimmer of the 1950s and 1960s, who won a silver medal in the 4×100-metre medley relay at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. The New South Welshman combined with David Theile, Neville Hayes and Terry Gathercole to win silver in the 4×100-metre medley relay, behind the United States and in front of Japanese team by just 0.2 of a second, the first time this event had been contested at the Olympics. Shipton had previously won a bronze medal in the 110-yard freestyle at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff, Wales, behind fellow Australians John Devitt and Gary Chapman. Terry Gathercole
Terrence Stephen Gathercole (25 November 1935 – 30 May 2001), was an Australian breaststroke swimmer of the 1950s and 1960s, who won a silver medal in the 4x100-metre medley relay at the 1960 Summer Olympics. He later became a swimming coach, at one stage being the Australian female team coach for the 1964 Summer Olympics and guiding numerous breaststroke students to Olympic and World Championship gold medals. He also served as the president of Swimming Australia. Biography Born in Tallimba, New South Wales. He grew up in West Wyalong, New South Wales where he lived throughout his school years. In 1957, he married Carol Fraser and they had three children – Gai, Ben and Tim. Ilsa Konrads
Ilsa Konrads ( lv, Ilze Konrade; born 29 March 1944) is an Australian former freestyle swimmer of the 1950s and 1960s, who won a silver medal in the 4×100-metre freestyle relay at the 1960 Summer Olympics. In her career, she set 13 individual world records, and after her swimming career ended, was the Australasian editor of '' Belle'' magazine. Along with her brother John Konrads, who also set multiple world records, and won gold in the 1500-metre freestyle, they were known as the ''Konrad Kids''. Career Born in Riga, Latvia, Konrads emigrated with her parents Jānis and Elza, grandmother, elder sister Eve, and elder brother John (Jānis) in August 1944, initially to Germany. Lorraine Crapp
Lorraine Joyce Thurlow, (born 1 October 1938), née Crapp, is a former Olympic swimming champion representing Australia. In world swimming history, Crapp earned a place as the first woman to break the five-minute barrier in the 400 m freestyle. Born in 1938, as a young girl Crapp lived with her parents at Jervis Bay where her father was with a Royal Australian Air Force Air Sea Rescue Unit. By the age of five she was a competent swimmer. When the family moved to Mortlake she joined the Cabarita Swimming Club and by the age of 12 was the winner of all her age events in freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. In 1952, Crapp was selected in the New South Wales team for the Australian Championships in Melbourne, where she came second to Olympian Judy Davis in the senior 880 yards. Alva Colquhoun
Alva Merlin Colquhoun (married name Wyatt, born 28 February 1942) is an Australian former freestyle and butterfly swimmer of the 1950s, who won a silver medal in the 4×100-metre freestyle relay at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. She is perhaps best known for resolving a dispute at a team meeting during the Rome Olympics. Making her first appearance for Australia at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff, Wales, Colquhuon combined with Dawn Fraser, Lorraine Crapp and Sandra Morgan to win the 110-yard freestyle. Marilyn Joy Wilson (born 14 July 1943), known after her marriage as Marilyn Young, is an Australian former backstroke swimmer of the 1960s, who won a silver medal in the women's 4×100-metre medley relay at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. She combined with her Australian teammates Dawn Fraser, Jan Andrew and Rosemary Lassig to finish second in the medley relay, trailing the Americans relay team by five seconds. Rosemary Lassig
Rosemary Lassig (10 August 1941 – 1 November 2017), known after marriage as Rosemary Lluka, was an Australian breaststroke swimmer of the 1960s, who won a silver medal in the 4×100-metre medley relay at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. Lassig combined with Dawn Fraser, Jan Andrew and Marilyn Wilson to register a silver medal in the 4×100-metre medley relay five seconds behind the winners, the United States. In her only individual event, the 200-metre breaststroke, she did not advance beyond the preliminary heats. Lassig, who was born in Bundaberg, Queensland, died in Sydney on 1 November 2017 due to complications caused by Alzheimer's disease.
