Australasian Pacers Grand Circuit
The Australian Grand Circuit for Pacers History The Circuit began in 1977 and was designed to be the showpiece of the Australian Harness Racing Industry with horses competing from every state within Australia. In 1992 New Zealand was admitted and the Circuit was renamed the Australasian Grand Circuit. The best horses available are brought together to race for very attractive prizemoney. With the associated opportunities for promotion and marketing, this benefits both owners and harness racing clubs as well as the industry overall. In its first season in 1977, total stakemoney for the eight races forming the Circuit was $554,020. The Grand Circuit has eliminated date clashes of major races which so often prevented the best horses from competing against each other to the detriment of clubs and the public. Standardbred
The Standardbred is an American horse breed best known for its ability in harness racing, where members of the breed compete at either a trot or pace. Im Themightyquinn (foaled 8 November 2004) is an Australian champion Standardbred race horse notable for being a three time Australian Harness Horse of the Year and three time winner of the Inter Dominion. He was inducted into the Inter Dominion Hall of Fame. Im Themightyquinn was entered into the 2006 Premier Sale in New Zealand where he was bred but was withdrawn from the sale likely due to lack of commercial appeal as he was a small yearling out of a not particularly successful mare. Christian Cullen (foaled 6 November 1994) is a Standardbred stallion and was one of New Zealand's best Standardbred horse, pacers. Named after the New Zealand All Blacks, international rugby union player, Christian Cullen, he won 22 of his 31 starts, and $NZ1,249,150 in prize money. He is notable in that he won both the Auckland Pacing Cup and New Zealand Trotting Cup races, the richest harness races in New Zealand. Elsu (foaled 19 December 1999) is a black New Zealand bred Standardbred pacer who won the Australasian Pacers Grand Circuit Champion and was twice the New Zealand Horse of the Year. He was sired by Falcon Seelster out of Interchange by New York Motoring. Racing record He was trained by Geoff Small and driven by David Butcher. Be Good Johnny is an Australian born Standardbred pacer trained, owned and driven by John McCarthy of Logan Village, Queensland. He started his career later than most at age 5 coming second in a trial at Albion Park on 17 February 2004. His first win came in his next race 2 March 2004 in a C0 to C1 heat over 2,138 metres at Albion Park. The horse went on to win 24 of its first 27 starts, half of which were driven by John's son - Luke McCarthy. Be Good Johnny stepped up to higher class races in the middle of 2005 just as the Australian harness season was about to begin in Queensland. Flashing Red is a brown Australia bred Standardbred racehorse that was foaled in 1997. He is notable in that he won both the Auckland Pacing Cup and two New Zealand Trotting Cups. These races are the richest harness races in New Zealand. He was victorious in every harness racing state of Australia and New Zealand and earned over $2,000,000 during his racing career. He was inducted into the Queensland Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Tasmanian Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 2014. Mr Feelgood is a high-class Standardbred racehorse. He is the only pacer in recent years to win major races in both North America and Australia. Foaled in the United States, his achievements in North America included the 2006 Little Brown Jug and the 2008 Graduate FFA. He was sold to Australian owners Kevin and Kay Seymour & Peter and Zilla O'Shea in 2008, and placed in the stable of New Zealand trainer Tim Butt.
