__NOTOC__ The Auster C6 Atlantic was a British four-seat cabin monoplane designed and built by Auster Aircraft Limited. Development of the type was abandoned after initial flight tests. Design and development The C6 Atlantic was designed as a high-wing monoplane, four-seat executive tourer,Jackson 1973, p. 288 powered by a 185 hp (138 kW) Continental E-185-10 piston engine and based on the Auster J/5T with a tricycle landing gear and other modern items such as control wheels.Wenham 2015, p52 One aircraft was built which, as a fitted out fuselage registered ''G-APHT'', was statically displayed at the 1957 SBAC Show at Farnborough. Auster Aircraft Limited was a British aircraft manufacturer from 1938 to 1961.Willis, issue 122, p.55 History The company began in 1938 at the Britannia Works, Thurmaston near Leicester, England, as Taylorcraft Aeroplanes (England) Limited, making light observation aircraft designed by the Taylorcraft Aircraft Corporation of America. 1,604 high-wing Taylorcraft Auster monoplanes were built during World War II for the armed forces of the UK and Canada, primarily for the role of Air Observation Post (AOP). During the war the head office and drawing office were at a big old house on the outskirts of Thurmaston called "The Woodlands". The fuselages and wings were manufactured at Syston under the works manager by the name of Sharp. Sheet metalwork was done at the old 'en tout cas' works at Thurmaston. The Auster J series was a family of British light civil utility aircraft developed in the 1940s and 50s by Auster at Rearsby, Leicestershire. History As the end of the Second World War approached the designers at Taylorcraft decided to develop a tourer version of the robust and reliable Model J AOP. V observation aircraft series. An Auster 5, registered ''G-AGOH'', was modified to take a 100 hp (75 kW) Blackburn Cirrus II engine for trials. At the same time a prototype aircraft ''G-AFWN'' was built designated the Taylorcraft Auster V Series J/1 Autocrat.Hitchman, 2006, p. 21. The Continental O-470 engine is a family of carbureted and fuel-injected six-cylinder, horizontally opposed, air-cooled aircraft engines that was developed especially for use in light aircraft by Continental Motors. The Beagle A.109 Airedale is a British light civil aircraft developed in the 1960s. Design and development The Airedale was a four-seat, high-wing braced monoplane with a fixed, tricycle undercarriage, mainly of steel tube construction and fabric covered. It was originally designed as the Auster D.8 which was a modified tricycle version of the Auster D.6. Although similar in many respects, the Airedale was not based on the earlier Auster C.6 Atlantic design, of which a single aircraft was built and flown in 1958 (registration ''G-APHT''). The first three D.8 airframes were in construction when Beagle Aircraft bought the Rearsby-based Auster company in 1960.
