Austbygde (also known as Austbygdi or Tinn Austbygd) is a village in Tinn Municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The village is located at the northern end of the lake Tinnsjå in the lower Tessungdal valley which runs to the north from the lake. The village lies about to the east of the village of Atrå and about to the north of the village of Hovin, Tinn, Hovin. Austbygde Church is located at the north end of the village. The village has a population (2022) of 393 and a population density of . Name The approved names for the village are ''Austbygde'' (primary) and ''Austbygdi'' (secondary). Tinnsjå
Tinnsjå ( eng, Lake Tinn), also called ''Tinnsjø'' and ''Tinnsjøen'', is one of the largest lakes in Norway, and one of the deepest in Europe. It is located between the municipalities of Tinn and Notodden in Vestfold og Telemark county. At its source in the west, the Måna river flows out of Møsvatn and past Rjukan into Tinnsjå. From the north, the river Mår flows from the Mår, Gøystavatn, and Kalhovdfjorden lakes into Tinnsjå. Tinnsjå is part of the Skiensvassdrag, and drains via the Tinnelva river in the south, down to Heddalsvatn. In 1944, during the German occupation of Norway, the ferry SF ''Hydro'' was sunk in Tinnsjå by the Norwegian resistance. The Germans were using the ferry to transport a large quantity of heavy water to Germany, where it was to be used for nuclear weapon research. Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag. The purpose was to co-operate on publishing encyclopaedias and dictionaries. The first volume of Store norske leksikon (SNL) was published in 1978. Austbygde Church ( no, Austbygde kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Tinn Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Austbygdi, Telemark, Austbygdi. It is one of the churches for the Tinn parish which is part of the Øvre Telemark prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1888 using plans drawn up by the architect Jacob Wilhelm Nordan. The church seats about 300 people. History Austbygde was formerly part of the Atrå Church parish, but it became its own church parish starting on 1 January 1888. Planning for a new church to serve the newly created parish began right away. Tinn is a Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Telemark in the Counties of Norway, county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway.
