Augusto Samuel Boyd Briceño (1 August 1879 in Panama City – 17 June 1957 www.encaribe.org) was a politician from Panama. Background He was elected as the first presidential designate by the National Assembly for the terms 1936–1938 and 1938–1940. In that capacity he became President of Panama when Juan Demóstenes Arosemena died in December 1939. He served until 1 October 1940. During his government, the Transisthmian Highway, a highway that crossed the Isthmus of Panama and linked Panama City with Colón, was inaugurated. Colón () is a city and seaport in Panama, beside the Caribbean Sea, lying near the Atlantic entrance to the Panama Canal. Transport in Panama includes a vast network of public buses, metro lines, railways, waterways and airports. The Panama Canal Railway is an expansive railway line that provides transportation for passengers and goods across the country. Panama contains a total of 15,137 km of road transport - these include paved and unpaved roads. The main four expressways are Corredor Sur, Corredor Norte, Autopista La Chorrera and Colón Expressway. Juan Demóstenes Arosemena Barreati (24 June 1879 in Panama City – 16 December 1939 in Penonomé, Coclé Province) was President of Panama from October 1, 1936 to December 16, 1939. He belonged to the National Liberal Party. His Vice-Presidents were the conservative Augusto Samuel Boyd and Ezequiel Fernández Jaén, the maximum leader and founder of the National Revolutionary Party (today Panameñista Party).
