Augustine of Hippo ( , ; la, Aurelius Augustinus Hipponensis; 13 November 354 – 28 August 430), also known as Saint Augustine, was a theologian and philosopher of Berber origin and the bishop of Hippo Regius in Numidia, Roman North Africa. His writings influenced the development of Western philosophy and Western Christianity, and he is viewed as one of the most important Church Fathers of the Latin Church in the Patristic Period. His many important works include ''The City of God'', '' On Christian Doctrine'', and '' Confessions''. According to his contemporary, Jerome, Augustine "established anew the ancient Faith". In his youth he was drawn to the eclectic Manichaean faith, and later to the Hellenistic philosophy of Neoplatonism. After his conversion to Christianity and baptism in 386, Augustine developed his own approach to philosophy and theology, accommodating a variety of methods and perspectives. Augustinus (Jansenist Book)
', known by its short title ', is a theological work in Latin by Cornelius Jansen. Published posthumously in Louvain by Jacobus Zegers in 1640, it was in three parts: #On Pelagianism (''Dē Hæresī Pelagiana'', "Concerning Peligian Heresy") #On original sin (''Dē Gratiā Prīmī Hominis'', "The Grace of the First Man" and ''Dē Statū Nātūræ Lāpsæ'', "The Fallen State of Nature") #On divine grace (''Dē Gratiā Chrīstī Salvātōris'', "The Grace of Christ the Savior") It began with the proposition that Augustine of Hippo was a man chosen by God to reveal the doctrine of grace. Thus, by this logic, any later Catholic teaching contrary to Augustine's work should be revised to match it. ''De mirabilibus Sacrae Scripturae'' (in English: ''On the miraculous things in Sacred Scripture'') is a Latin treatise written around 655 by an anonymous Irish writer and philosopher known as Augustinus Hibernicus or the Irish Augustine. The author's nickname is in reference to the philosopher Augustine of Hippo. This pseudo-Augustine was born in Ireland sometime in the first half of the seventh century and is noted especially for his natural philosophy. Around the year 655 he wrote a treatise called ''De mirabilibus Sacrae Scripturae''. It has long been regarded as an exceptional work, in that it demonstrates a strictly scientific approach in the matter of making direct observations of nature and subjecting them to a strictly logical interpretation. His treatise seeks to explain each miracle in the Scriptures as an extreme case of phenomena, yet still within the laws of nature. Norman Theodoor Augustinus Jr is an American writer. Early life Augustinus was born in the Hutzel Women's Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He is the son of Levontina Melnyk and Norman Augustinus Sr. His grandfather Bart Theodoor Augustinus was born in Amsterdam, but left the Netherlands in 1922 entering the US by way of the Vermont, St. Albans Canadian Crossing. ''Callophrys augustinus'', the brown elfin, is butterfly of the family Lycaenidae. It is found from Newfoundland north and west through the northern United States and the prairie provinces to Alaska. To the south it ranges in Appalachian Mountains to northern Georgia and northern Alabama, further south through the western mountains to northern Baja California in Mexico. Subspecies ''iroides'' is known as the western elfin. The wingspan is 22–29 mm. Adults are on wing from early May to early June in one generation. They feed on flower nectar from various species, including ''Vaccinium'', ''Sanicula arctopoides'', ''Lindera'', ''Salix'', ''Barbarea'' and ''Prunus americana''.
