August Franciszek Maria Anna Józef Kajetan Czartoryski (2 August 1858 – 8 April 1893) was a Polish Roman Catholic professed member of the Salesians of Don Bosco and a noble prince. He was born in Paris during his house's exile and came from a notable house; his constant frail health saw much of his childhood being shuttled to various health spas. Raphael Kalinowski tutored him; the prince turned to the priesthood instead of pursuing the aristocratic life. But his path into the Salesians was not set in stone for Don Bosco believed his frail health would become an impediment to his ecclesial studies. But Bosco allowed him to do his novitiate after Pope Leo XIII intervened. He was ordained in 1892 and settled as a pastor in Savona where he died from tuberculosis. His beatification process began in 1921 though formal introduction was not until 1941 after he became titled as a Servant of God; he was named as Venerable on 1 December 1978 and was beatified on 25 April 2004. Beatification (from Latin ''beatus'', "blessed" and ''facere'', "to make”) is a recognition accorded by the Catholic Church of a deceased person's entrance into Heaven and capacity to intercede on behalf of individuals who pray in their name. ''Beati'' is the plural form, referring to those who have undergone the process of beatification; they possess the title of "Blessed" (abbreviation "Bl.") before their names and are often referred to in English as "a Blessed" or, plurally, "Blesseds".
