Audubon Community School District
The Audubon Community School District is a public school district headquartered in Audubon, Iowa. The majority of the district is in eastern Audubon County, with a smaller area in Guthrie County. The district serves Audubon, Gray, and the surrounding rural areas. The school mascot is the Wheeler and the colors are red and white. Eric Trager has served as superintendent since 2019, after serving eight years as the principal for the middle-high school. Audubon, Iowa
Audubon is a city and the county seat in Audubon County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,053 in the 2020 census, a decline from 2,382 in the 2000 census. History The city is named for John James Audubon the world-famous ornithologist, artist, and painter. Audubon was laid out by the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, on September 23, 1878. An auction sale of town lots was held on October 15, 1878, with a total sales of $6,190. The railroad was completed on December 6, 1878, and by December 16, 1878, over fifty houses, a bank, five general stores, one jewelry store, two hotels, one restaurant, three meat markets, three blacksmith shops, one harness shop, one livery stable, two coal yards, two lumber yards, one elevator, three grain dealers, and a school house were built. Guthrie County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,623. The county seat is Guthrie Center. The county was formed on January 15, 1851, and named after Captain Edwin B. Guthrie, who died in the Mexican–American War. Western Iowa Conference
The Western Iowa Conference is a high school athletic conference made up of bigger 1A and smaller 2A schools located mostly in the greater Council Bluffs area. The teams in the conference have a deep-rooted history together. Most of the schools have been with the conference throughout its history. History The Western Iowa Conference was organized in 1972 through the merger of the former Tri-County and Southwest Iowa Conferences. Members of the Tri-County Conference at that time were Carson–Macedonia, Elk Horn–Kimballton, Iowa School for the Deaf, Shelby-Tennant, Treynor, Tri-Center (Neola), Underwood, and Walnut. The members of the Southwest Iowa Conference then were AvoHa (Avoca), Griswold, Missouri Valley, and Oakland.
