David Attenborough
Sir David Frederick Attenborough (; born 8 May 1926) is an English broadcaster, biologist, natural historian and author. He is best known for writing and presenting, in conjunction with the BBC Natural History Unit, the nine natural history documentary series forming the ''Life'' collection, a comprehensive survey of animal and plant life on Earth. Attenborough was a senior manager at the BBC, having served as controller of BBC Two and director of programming for BBC Television in the 1960s and 1970s. Attenborough, Nottinghamshire
Attenborough is a village in the Borough of Broxtowe in Nottinghamshire, England. It forms part of the Greater Nottingham area, and is to the southwest of the city of Nottingham, between Long Eaton (to the southwest) and Beeston (to the northeast). It adjoins the suburbs of Toton to the west and Chilwell to the north. The population of the ward, as at the 2011 Census, was 2,328. The village is home to Attenborough railway station and the Attenborough Nature Reserve. Features Attenborough Nature Reserve is a series of gravel pits, which were flooded after gravel extraction and are now a haven for birds and other wildlife. The main commercial centre of Attenborough is around the junction of Nottingham Road (the A6005) and Attenborough Lane. Attenborough Railway Station
Attenborough railway station serves Attenborough in Nottinghamshire, England. History Built as a halt known as Attenborough Gate in 1856 on the Midland Counties Railway line from Nottingham to Derby which had opened in 1839, the station opened next to a level crossing and tickets were bought from the crossing keeper. The station on the present site was built by the Midland Railway and opened on 1 September 1864; the ''Gate'' suffix was dropped and the name became Attenborough. Becoming part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway during the Grouping of 1923, the station then passed on to the London Midland Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948. During World War I the station had its platforms extended as it was used as an interchange for soldiers and workers heading for National Shell Filling Factory No. 6 at Chilwell. The Attenborough Building is the tallest building on the campus of the University of Leicester, and houses arts and humanities departments. The building comprises three distinct elements: an 18-storey tower block containing 270 offices and tutorial rooms; a low-rise building, known within the University as the 'Attenborough Seminar Block', containing seminar rooms and computing facilities; and an underground area housing two large lecture theatres and the University Film Theatre. It was designed by Arup Associates and constructed between 1968 and 1970, with Ove Arup as the chief engineers. The university's development plan at the time called for two other similar towers, but these were never built. The building was named after Frederick Attenborough, who was principal of the then University College from 1932 until 1951, and father of Richard and David Attenborough.
