Atsimo-Atsinanana Region
Atsimo-Atsinanana (South East) is a region in Madagascar. Its capital is Farafangana. The region used to be part of the Fianarantsoa Province. The region extends along the southern part of the east coast of Madagascar. It is bordered by Vatovavy-Fitovinany and Haute Matsiatra (North), Ihorombe (West) and Anosy (South). The population was 1,026,674 in 2018. Green Giant Mine
The Green Giant mine is one of the largest vanadium mines in Madagascar. The mine is located in Betioky Sud in Atsimo-Atsinanana. The mine has reserves amounting to 59.2 million tonnes of ore grading 0.68% vanadium. In August of 2007, the Canadian company ''Uranium Star Corp'' announced an agreement where it would buy a 75% ownership stake in the mine from ''Madagascar Minerals and Resources Sarl'', and then bought full ownership in 2009. An aerial survey was conducted in 2007 and samples were drilled in 2008. ''Uranium Star Corp'' rebranded as ''Energizer Resources Inc'' in December 2009, and then as ''NextSource Materials Inc'' in April 2017. Midongy Du Sud National Park
Midongy du sud National Park (also known as Midongy-Befotaka) is a national park in the region of Atsimo-Atsinanana, in south-east Madagascar. The park has the second largest rainforest on the island and is rich in endemic animals and plants, especially medicinal plants. History Midongy first received protection in 1953 and became a national park in 1997. Geography The park is also an Important Bird Area overlapping with the national park and is divided into two main parts; the Befotaka Forest and the Soarano Forest . It is from Befotaka and south-east of Vangaindrano. It is served by unpaved roads which may be impassable during the wet season of December to June. Vangaindrano Airport
Vangaindrano is a town and a district in Atsimo-Atsinanana Region, Madagascar with a population of 38,537 (2018). Geography The town is near the mouth of the Mananara River at the southern part of the east coast. It's connected to the north by National Road RN 12 to Farafangana that is situated at a distance of 75 km in the North.
