Atonement (Final Cut Album)
''Atonement'' is the third studio album by Final Cut, released on May 28, 1996 by Fifth Colvmn Records. Reception Aiding & Abetting gave ''Atonement'' a positive review, saying " The Final Cut takes the best ideas of the world's finest industrial purveyors, adding a few new ideas just for the hell of it." AllMusic awarded the album two and a half out of five stars and said "while the results fit snugly into 1990s industrial territory, the record is also strongly influenced by the blaxploitation-styled guitar funk of the 1970s." Sonic Boom gave the album a mixed review, saying "musically this EP is all over the place. It ranges from the very traditional guitar, drums, bass of CSC to club remixes almost totally devoid of a guitar" and "If you are either a CSC or Meathead completist you will want to pick up this EP which has tracks that appear nowhere else." Final Cut (band)
Final Cut was a techno-industrial band formed in Detroit, Michigan and led by Anthony Srock with a revolving cast of guest musicians. History Srock, then a DJ in Detroit, formed Final Cut (sometimes preceded by ''The'') in the late 1980s as a collaboration with DJ Jeff Mills. They released their debut single "Take Me Away" in 1989 and the album '' Deep in 2 the Cut'' later that year. Final Cut was noted for mixing established industrial music with Detroit techno, with a sound comparable to heavy metal but made with machines rather than guitars. ''Deep in 2 the Cut'' gained appreciation years later as an influential early entry in the development of industrial music. Mills then left the project, and Srock took a leadership role with various guest musicians and a more guitar-oriented sound. The project was signed to I.R.S. Die Warzau (originally Die Warzau Synfony) was an American industrial music band formed in 1987 by Jim Marcus and Van Christie. History In the late 80s, Jim Marcus and Van Christie were working individually as performance artists. Christie had also been playing music with a band but found that he wanted to work with another musician that was into performance art, which led to collaboration with Marcus. The duo originally took the name "Die Warzau Synfony" as a reference to an orchestra composed of dissidents and Jews that played in Warsaw, Poland early in World War Two until, as the band put it, they were "censored to death." Zalman Fishman
Fifth Colvmn Records was a record label based in Washington, DC. The label was founded in 1990 by Zalman Fishman, owner of the nightclub FIFTH COLVMN, located in Washington D.C. The label's first release was Chemlab's debut EP Ten Ton Pressure. Jared Hendrickson of Chemlab also became the general manager for the label. Chemlab later played several dates with Nine Inch Nails, eventually attracting a distribution deal for their next release, Burn Out at the Hydrogen Bar, with Metal Blade Records. The band Thud was the next artist to join the label. Heavy, loud and unrelenting, Thud became very popular amongst Metal fans and critics alike luring Eli Janney from Girls Against Boys to contribute to their debut record Life & Death and earning co-headling performances with Stone Temple Pilots. Mastering, a form of audio post production, is the process of preparing and transferring recorded audio from a source containing the final mix to a data storage device (the master), the source from which all copies will be produced (via methods such as pressing, duplication or replication).
