Atoms For Peace (band)
Atoms for Peace were an English-American supergroup comprising the Radiohead songwriter Thom Yorke (vocals, guitar, piano), the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, Radiohead's producer Nigel Godrich (keyboards, synthesisers, guitars), the drummer Joey Waronker of Beck and R.E.M., and the percussionist Mauro Refosco. Yorke formed Atoms for Peace in 2009 to perform songs from his debut solo album, '' The Eraser'' (2006); they toured in 2010. In 2013, they released an album, ''Amok'', the product of combining Yorke's electronic music with the band's jamming. It received mainly positive reviews, with several critics likening it to Yorke's solo work. ''Amok'' was followed by a tour of Europe, the US and Japan. Nigel Godrich
Nigel Timothy Godrich (born 28 February 1971) is an English record producer, recording engineer and musician. He is known for his work with the English rock band Radiohead, having produced all their studio albums since '' OK Computer'' (1997). He has also produced several projects by the Radiohead singer, Thom Yorke. He is a member of Atoms for Peace (with Yorke) and Ultraísta. Early in his career, Godrich worked as the house engineer at RAK Studios, London, under the producer John Leckie. He met Radiohead while working at RAK on their second album, '' The Bends'' (1995), for which he received his first production credit. Radiohead hired him to produce their next album, ''OK Computer'', which was a major success and brought him attention from major artists. ''Amok'' is the debut album by the supergroup Atoms for Peace, released on February 25, 2013 by XL Recordings. It features Radiohead singer Thom Yorke (vocals, keyboards, programming and guitars), Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich (production and programming), Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, drummer Joey Waronker and percussionist Mauro Refosco. It combines electronic and live instrumentation. Yorke formed Atoms for Peace in 2009 to perform songs from his first solo album, '' The Eraser'' (2006). After the tour ended, the band spent three days jamming and recording original material in a Los Angeles studio. Yorke and Godrich edited and arranged the recordings over two years, combining them with Yorke's electronic music. Rabbit In Your Headlights
"Rabbit in Your Headlights" is a song by British electronic duo Unkle. It was released as the lead single from their debut album '' Psyence Fiction'' (1998). The song features vocals from Radiohead singer Thom Yorke. The song was written by Yorke and Unkle member Josh Davis and produced by Unkle, the track heavily uses samples from other songs. "Rabbit in Your Headlights" combines Yorke's vocals with a variety of samples from sources ranging from Dutch band Supersister to the film ''Contact'' (1997). It takes its title from a quote from the thriller film ''Jacob's Ladder'' (1990); dialogue from the film is also one of many samples on the song. The song also appears to sample the percussion from Talk Talk's "New Grass" from their album ''Laughing Stock'' (1991). While the single was not a commercial success, it was positively received by critics. "Atoms for Peace" was the title of a speech delivered by U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower to the UN General Assembly in New York City on December 8, 1953. The United States then launched an "Atoms for Peace" program that supplied equipment and information to schools, hospitals, and research institutions within the U.S. and throughout the world. The first nuclear reactors in Israel and Pakistan in Islamabad were built under the program by American Machine and Foundry, a company more commonly known as a major manufacturer of bowling equipment. Philosophy The speech was part of a carefully orchestrated media campaign, called "Project Candor, Operation Candor", to enlighten the American public on the risks and hopes of a nuclear future.
