Atmospheres (TV Series)
''Atmospheres'' was a weekly television series on The Weather Channel. The series, hosted by meteorologists Jim Cantore and Mish Michaels, featured current weather news and information. Some of the original segments included "Feature of the Week", dramatic rescue stories from inclement weather (which would set the tone for ''Storm Stories''); "Destinations", which highlighted exotic locales; "In The Elements", profiles of people working in extreme weather (a forerunner to ''Epic Conditions''), and a unique weather story that varied with each episode. Each episode contained three local and two national forecasts. Jim Cantore
James D. Cantore (born February 16, 1964) is an American meteorologist. He is best known as an on-air personality for The Weather Channel. Career A native of Beacon Falls, Connecticut, who was raised in White River Junction, Vermont, Cantore graduated from Lyndon State College in 1986. The Weather Channel gave him his first job out of college in July of that year and he has worked there ever since. Cantore has become one of the best-known meteorologists on television. Algis Laukaitis of the Lincoln (Nebraska) Journal Star referred to Cantore as the "rock star of meteorologists". Cantore has been lauded for his ability to "break down" complicated weather events into terms the average viewer can understand. Cantore is often selected to go to report on severe weather events. The Weather Channel (TWC) is an American pay television channel owned by Weather Group, LLC, a subsidiary of Allen Media Group. The channel's headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia. Launched on May 2, 1982, the channel broadcasts weather forecasts and weather-related news and analysis, along with documentaries and entertainment programming related to weather. A sister network, Weatherscan, was a digital cable and satellite service that offered 24-hour automated local forecasts and radar imagery. Weatherscan was officially shut down on December 9, 2022. The Weather Channel also produces outsourced weathercasts, notably for CBS News and RFD-TV. The Weather Channel was a subsidiary of the Weather Company until the latter was bought by IBM in 2016. Mish Michaels
Mish Michaels (1968 – c. March 16, 2022) was an American broadcast meteorologist, environmental reporter, and author. Life and career Michaels was born in Kolkata, India. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and a Master's Degree in Technology from Harvard University. Michaels worked at WHDH and The Weather Channel. Before working at WHDH she spent some time at WMUR-TV in Manchester, NH. She joined the WBZ-TV weather team in September 2001 and left in July 2009. After leaving WBZ-TV, she spent time raising her children and writing books in her spare time. In late 2010, she contributed to the book, ''Extreme New England Weather'' written by Josh Judge, with her story of a deadly microburst in Stratham, New Hampshire, in 1991. ''Storm Stories'' is an American non-fiction television series that airs on The Weather Channel (TWC) and Zone Reality. It is hosted and narrated by meteorologist and storm tracker Jim Cantore. ''Storm Stories'' showcases various types of severe weather, such as tornadoes, hurricanes, and blizzards. Each episode features a famous severe storm, and survivors of it sharing their experiences. The program also features footage of the storm if it is available, but typically a re-enactment is used instead. The video of the storm is often shown while the survivors offer their accounts of it. ''It Could Happen Tomorrow'' is a television series that premiered on January 15, 2006 on The Weather Channel. It explored the possibilities of various weather and other natural phenomena severely damaging or destroying America's cities. This included: a Category 3 hurricane hitting New York City, an F4 tornado destroying Washington, D.C., dormant volcano Mount Rainier re-activating and destroying towns in the surrounding valleys, a tsunami flooding the Pacific Northwest coast, an intraplate earthquake impacting Memphis, Tennessee, wildfires spreading into the heart of San Diego, a huge earthquake leveling San Francisco, a flash flood in Boulder, Colorado, and a flood in Sacramento. When Weather Changed History
''When Weather Changed History'' was an American documentary television series that was shown The Weather Channel from 2008 to 2009. It chronicles major events in history and the effect weather had on them. Program History ''When Weather Changed History'' launched on January 6, 2008 with the premiere episode focusing on the space shuttle Challenger explosion. The series premiered with record high ratings for its first season of 10 episodes. As a result, a second season consisting of 14 episodes was ordered. Season 2 premiered on October 5, 2008. The last episode of ''When Weather Changed History'' premiered in February 2009. Currently reruns can be seen, however, the current fate of the program is unknown at this time. In December 2010, The Weather Channel aired a week's worth of Viewer's Choice episodes at 8 p.m. ET. TWC launched a similar series, ''Weather That Changed the World'', on June 9, 2013.
