Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Tournament
The ASUN Conference men's basketball tournament (formerly known as the Trans America Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament between 1979 and 2001) is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the ASUN Conference, formerly known as the Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC) and Atlantic Sun Conference. The tournament has been held every year since 1979, except for 1992–93. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner, declared conference champion, receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA men's basketball tournament, as long as it is eligible for NCAA-sponsored postseason play. The eligibility issue applied in both 2021 and 2022, with each final featuring a team representing a transitional member of Division I (North Alabama in 2021 and Bellarmine in 2022). Calvin Leon Natt (born January 8, 1957) is an American retired professional basketball player. A 6'6" (1.98 m) forward, Natt played at Northeast Louisiana University under coach Lenny Fant. After college, he played 11 NBA seasons (1979–1990), spending time with the New Jersey Nets, Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs, and Indiana Pacers. The Little Rock Trojans men's basketball team (formerly branded as the Arkansas–Little Rock Trojans) represents the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States. The Trojans joined the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) in 2022 after 31 seasons in the Sun Belt Conference. They are led by first-year head coach Darrell Walker. The 1983 Trans America Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament (now known as the ASUN men's basketball tournament) was held March 10–12, 1983 at Barton Coliseum in Little Rock, Arkansas. Georgia Southern upset top-seeded in the championship game, 68–67, to win their first TAAC/Atlantic Sun men's basketball tournament. The Eagles, in turn, received an automatic bid to the 1983 NCAA tournament, their first Division I tournament appearance. The 1982 Trans America Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament (now known as the ASUN men's basketball tournament) was held March 3–5 at the Fant–Ewing Coliseum in Monroe, Louisiana. Northeast Louisiana defeated in the championship game, 98–85, to win their second TAAC/Atlantic Sun men's basketball tournament. The Indians, in turn, received an automatic bid to the 1982 NCAA tournament. Only the top seven teams in the conference qualified for this year's tournament; the two teams with the worst records, Samford and Hardin–Simmons, were excluded. Shreveport ( ) is a city in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is the third most populous city in Louisiana after New Orleans and Baton Rouge, respectively. Hirsch Coliseum
Hirsch Memorial Coliseum is 10,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Shreveport, Louisiana, designed by the late local architect Edward F. Neild Jr. (1908–1958) who, with his father in 1937, had designed the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum in Shreveport. The coliseum is named after William Rex Hirsch, a former fair president, manager and treasurer. The building completed construction in 1954, the year of Hirsch's death, and initially was planned to have the name ''The Youth Building''. The Houston Christian Huskies men's basketball team, known as the Houston Baptist Huskies until 2022, represents Houston Christian University in Houston, Texas, in NCAA Division I men's basketball competition. The team is coached by Ron Cottrell. The Huskies competed as members of the Trans America Athletic Conference from 1978 to 1989. The Centenary Gentlemen basketball team represents Centenary College, located in Shreveport, Louisiana, in NCAA Division III men's basketball competition. The "Gentlemen" nickname is exclusive to men's athletes and teams; ''Ladies'' is used for women's teams and athletes. The team is a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, which is part of the NCAA Division III.
