The Atlanta Glory was a women's professional basketball team in Atlanta, Georgia. It was a member of the American Basketball League. The Glory played its home games in Forbes Arena. The team folded before the start of the abortive third ABL season in 1998. American Basketball League (1996–1998)
The American Basketball League, often abbreviated to the ABL of 1996 was a professional women's basketball league in the United States. At the same time the ABL was being formed, the National Basketball Association (NBA) was creating the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The ABL began league competition in the Fall of 1996, while the WNBA launched its first game in June 1997. Both organizations came into existence during a surge in popularity for women's basketball in the United States that followed the perfect 35–0 national championship season for the Connecticut Huskies in 1995 and the undefeated, gold medal-winning performance of the United States Women's basketball team at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Teresa Edwards
Teresa Edwards (born July 19, 1964) is an American former women's basketball player and four time Olympic gold medalist. In 2000, ''Sports Illustrated'' magazine placed her as 22nd of the "100 Greatest Female Athletes of the 20th Century". She played for, and graduated from, the University of Georgia. The US Olympic Committee appointed Edwards as chef de mission for the 2012 Olympic Games. Saudia Roundtree
Saudia Roundtree (born October 4, 1974 in Anderson, South Carolina) is an American women's basketball coach, and also a former star player. Career Roundtree attended Westside high School in Anderson, South Carolina, where she was named a High School All-American by the WBCA. She participated in the inaugural WBCA High School All-America Game in 1992, scoring ten points. She began her collegiate career at Kilgore College, where she captured National Junior College Player of the Year honors in 1994. She later transferred to the University of Georgia, where she was named an All-American and the Naismith College Player of the Year, USBWA Women's National Player of the Year, and WBCA Player of the Year in 1996. In 1996, Roundtree was named to the Final Four All Tournament team. Roundtree also received the Espy Award in 1997 for the Best Female College Basketball Player. Katrina McClain Johnson
Katrina McClain (born September 19, 1965) is a retired American basketball player. She played for the University of Georgia, as well as many USA Basketball teams including three Olympic teams. McClain was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Early years McClain grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, where she attended St. Andrews High School. In her senior year, she helped lead the team to a 30–0 record, including a state championship. College years McClain began her career at the University of Georgia, where she was a two-time All-American (1986, 1987) and won varsity letters all four years. In her freshman year, she was named to the Freshman All-American team, and was the first ever SEC Freshman of the year. She went on to become the National Player of the Year in 1987. The Women's American Basketball Association (WABA) is a league that began in 2017 with seven teams. It now has over 20 teams across the country. Season 4 was cancelled in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
