Atiqul Haque Chowdhury
Atiqul Haque Chowdhury (15 December 1930 – 17 June 2013) was a prominent media personality in Bangladesh. He had significantly contributed to the development of Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Radio. Biography Chowdhury began his career as a producer and programme organiser at Radio Pakistan Dhaka in 1960, later joining PTV Dhaka in 1965. Atiqul Haque Chowdhury has been one of the leading personalities actively involved in the BTV in its golden era (from late 1970s to late '80s). He started as a producer and retired as the deputy director general of the state-run TV station in 1991. During his tenure, he made over 450 TV plays. A number of quality radio plays were also written and directed by him. Bangladesh Television ( bn, বাংলাদেশ টেলিভিশন), commonly known by its acronym BTV ( bn, বিটিভি), is the state-owned television network of Bangladesh. The network was originally established as the East Pakistan branch of PTV in 1964. It is the oldest Bengali-language television network in the world, and is the sister to the radio broadcaster Bangladesh Betar, which, along with BTV, are both owned and operated by the government. Bangladesh Television is the country's only television network provided on terrestrial television. It is primarily financed through television licence fees. The Bangla Academy ( bn, বাংলা একাডেমি, ) is an autonomous institution funded by the Bangladesh government to foster the Bengali language, literature and culture, to develop and implement national language policy and to do original research in the Bengali language. Humayun Ahmed (; 13 November 1948 – 19 July 2012) was a Bangladeshi novelist, dramatist, screenwriter, filmmaker, songwriter, scholar, and professor. His breakthrough was his debut novel ''Nondito Noroke'' published in 1972. He wrote over 200 fiction and non-fiction books, many of which were bestsellers in Bangladesh. His books were the top sellers at the Ekushey Book Fair during the 1990s and 2000s. He won the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1981 and the Ekushey Padak in 1994 for his contribution to Bengali literature. In the early 1990s, Ahmed emerged as a filmmaker. Bangladesh Betar ( bn, বাংলাদেশ বেতার; ), or BB is the state-owned radio broadcaster of Bangladesh, initially established as the Dhaka station of All India Radio in 1939. It was later made part of Radio Pakistan. After the independence of the country in 1971, Radio Pakistan ceased transmissions there and the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra was renamed to Bangladesh Betar, which took full control of all radio stations in the country at the time. Sheikh Azizur Rahman (known as Shawkat Osman; 2 January 1917 – 14 May 1998) was a Bangladeshi novelist and short story writer. He won the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1962, the Ekushey Padak in 1983 and the Independence Day Award in 1997. Early life and education Osman was born in Sabalsinghapur, Hughli, West Bengal. Osman was educated at the Aliah University, and at the St. Xavier's College, Calcutta from where he graduated in 1938. He then earned his master's in Bengali literature from the University of Calcutta in 1941. Career Osman migrated to East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh) after the partition of India in 1947.
