Athy GAA
Athy GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in Athy, County Kildare, Ireland. The club has won seven county senior football championships. Geraldine Park
Geraldine Park is a GAA stadium in Athy, County Kildare, Ireland. It is the main ground of Athy GAA's Gaelic football and hurling teams and has also hosted inter-county fixtures. History First rented from the Kildare Agricultural Society in 1905, Athy GAA grounds was quickly developed in order to stage the 1906 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, the replay of the 1908 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final, the Leinster football finals of 1907, 1908, 1942 and 1944, and the Leinster hurling final of 1907. Geraldine Park was opened in 1930 and developed under the guidance of Fintan Brennan. It was also the venue for the 1975 All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship final. To the seating of the 1940s was added a stand in 1984. The dressing rooms, built in 1964 (now replaced), had a holy water font near the exit for use of teams running on to the pitch. Athy ( ; ) is a market town at the meeting of the River Barrow and the Grand Canal in south-west County Kildare, Ireland, 72 kilometres southwest of Dublin. A population of 9,677 (as of the 2016 census) makes it the sixth largest town in Kildare and the 50th largest in the Republic of Ireland, with a growth rate of approximately 60 per cent since the 2002 census. Michael Foley (Kildare Gaelic Footballer)
Michael "Mick" Foley is an Irish Gaelic footballer from Kildare who plays for his local club, Athy. He also played hurling with Kildare. He plays full back for the Kildare senior inter-county team since making his senior debut in 2004. In 2011, he was selected as a member of Football All-Star team. Carbury GAA
Carbury GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Ireland, winner of 11 Kildare county senior football championships and participants in eight successive county finals between 1965 and 1972. Ollie Crinnigan and (an All Star in 1978) and Pat Mangan (replacement All Star on two occasions) were on the Kildare football team of the millennium. The Kildare Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised since 1888 by Kildare GAA among the top hurling clubs in County Kildare, Ireland. Ballitore
Ballitore () is a village in County Kildare, Ireland, sometimes spelt as Ballytore. It is noted for its historical Quaker associations. It was the first planned Quaker village in either England or Ireland - and remains the only one in Europe. History Ballitore was first developed and founded as a Quaker settlement in the early 1700s. Two Quakers named John Bancroft and Abel Strettel founded Ballitore. They developed the farmland in the area around Ballitore, which is located within a valley, and also developed the town. A chapel was built in circa 1707. The Quaker school was founded by Abraham Shackleton (1697–1771) in 1726 and catered for Quakers from other parts of Ireland as well as both Protestant and Catholic local children. Kildare Senior Camogie Championship
Camogie was played in Kildare shortly after the sport was first organized in 1904. However, due to sparse records it is not certain when the first senior camogie championship was held. The earliest record of Camogie appears in an advertisement by Athy Ladies Hurling Club advertised a members reunion in July 1909.
