Athletics At The 2019 Pan American Games
Athletics competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru were held between July 27 and August 11, 2019 at the Athletics Stadium in the Villa Deportiva Nacional Videna cluster, with the marathon and walks being held at Kennedy Park. A total of 48 events were contested, equally divided among men and women. The women's 50 km walk was added for this edition, marking the first time men and women competed in an equal number of events. Qualification Up to a total of 740 athletes were qualified to compete. Each nation may enter a maximum of two athletes in each individual event, and one team per relay event. Each event has a maximum number of competitors and a minimum performance standard. Peru as host nation, is granted an automatic athlete slot per event, in the event no one qualifies for that respective event. Justin Robinson (born March 30, 2002) is an American sprinter specializing in the 400 meters. He set the world under-18 best in the boys' 400 meters in June 2019 with a time of 44.84 seconds. Carlos Martín Díaz del Río (born 9 July 1993) is a Chilean middle-distance runner who competes mainly in the 1500 metres. He holds a Chilean Record of 3:37.86 minutes for the distance. He was the gold medallist in the event at the South American Championships in Athletics in 2015. William Paulson (born 17 November 1994) is a middle-distance runner who competes for Canada. Paulson has dual Canadian-British citizenship, thanks to his French-Canadian mother and British father. Paulson was born in the UK and grew up in Tetbury, Gloucestershire and attended Leighterton Primary School and Pate's Grammar School, before going to Princeton for an undergraduate degree in biology.
