The women's 100 metres sprint competition of the athletics events at the 2015 Pan American Games took place between the 21 and 22 of July at the CIBC Pan Am and Parapan Am Athletics Stadium. The defending Pan American Games champion was Rosângela Santos of Brazil. York Lions Stadium is an outdoor sports stadium on the Keele Campus of Toronto's York University in the former city of North York. It is home to the York Lions, the varsity teams of York University, the Toronto Arrows of Major League Rugby and York United of the Canadian Premier League. The Pan American Games is a quadrennial event which began in 1951. The Pan American Sports Organization accepts only athletes who are representing one of the organisation's member states (most of which are within the Americas) and recognises records set at editions of the Pan American Games. The Games records in athletics are the best marks set in competitions at the Games. The athletics events at the Games are divided into four groups: track events (including sprints, middle- and long-distance running, hurdling and relays), field events (including javelin, discus, hammer, pole vault, long and triple jumps), road events and combined events (the heptathlon and decathlon). Semoy Hackett
Semoy Kee-Ann Hackett (born 27 November 1988) is a Tobagonian track and field sprint athlete who competed collegiately at Louisiana State University. Her personal best in the 100m is 11.09, and 22.49 in 200m. Hackett represented Trinidad and Tobago at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She competed at the 100 metres sprint and placed fourth in her first round heat, which normally meant elimination. However, her time of 11.53 seconds was among the ten fastest losing times and she qualified for the second round. There she failed to qualify for the semi finals as her time of 11.46 was the sixth time of her race. LaVerne Janet Jones-Ferrette (born September 16, 1981) is a sprinter from the United States Virgin Islands who specializes in the 100 and 200 meters. She represented her country at the Summer Olympics in 2004, 2008 and 2012. She won the silver medal over 60 meters at the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships in a time of 6.97 seconds; a subsequent drug test revealed a banned substance in her system and she was stripped of her medal. Jones-Ferrette competed at the World Championships in Athletics in 2005, 2007 and 2009, but did not reach an event final on any of those occasions. Morolake Akinosun (born May 17, 1994) is a Nigerian-born American track Sprint (running), runner who competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She won a team gold medal at the 2015 Pan American Games, 2015 Pan-American Games in Toronto in the 4 x 100-meter relay. She is only the second woman ever to score in four events at an National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA Outdoor Championships in consecutive seasons. She is a four time NCAA 4 x 100 champion. Kelly-Ann Kaylene Baptiste (born 14 October 1986) is a Tobagonian track and field sprint athlete. Junior Competing at the international level for the first time, Kelly-Ann bowed out in the semi-finals of the World Junior Championships in Athletics. She ran 12.03 seconds to end seventh in her heat at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. In 2003, Kelly-Ann was the first Trinidad and Tobago female sprinter to win a medal in a global track meet when she ran 11.58 seconds to take bronze in the 100m at the 3rd IAAF World Youth Championships in Sherbrooke, Canada. Khamica Bingham (born June 15, 1994) is a Canadian track and field athlete who specialises in the 100 metres. She has represented Canada at the Pan American Games, Commonwealth Games and the World Championships in Athletics. Bingham was born on June 15, 1994, in North York, Ontario. As a high schooler, she attended Heart Lake Secondary School. Originally a national-level gymnast, she switched to track due to the financial burden to her family of staying in her first sport. A single-elimination, knockout, or sudden death tournament is a type of elimination tournament where the loser of each match-up is immediately eliminated from the tournament.
