Athletics At The 2012 Summer Paralympics – Men's 100 Metres
The Men's 100m athletics events for the 2012 Summer Paralympics took place at the London Olympic Stadium from August 31 to September 8. A total of 15 events were contested over this distance for 15 different classifications. Schedule Results T11 Final T12 Final T13 Heats took place on 31 August 2012. Jason Smyth broke his own world record in 10.54, while Jonathan Ntutu broke the African record. The final took place on 1 September 2012. Jason Smyth of Ireland won gold in a new world record time of 10.46. Luis Felipe Gutierrez took silver for his second medal of the Games, with the South African Ntutu just clinching bronze. Athletics events at the 2012 Summer Paralympics were held in the Olympic Stadium and in The Mall in London, United Kingdom, from 31 August to 9 September 2012. Classification Athletes were given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allowed athletes to compete against others with a similar level of function. The athletics classifications are: *11–13: Blind (11) and visually impaired (12, 13) athletes *20: Athletes with an intellectual disability *31–38: Athletes with cerebral palsy *40: Les Autres (others) (including people with dwarfism) *42–46: Amputees *51–58: Athletes with a spinal cord disability The class numbers were given prefixes of "T", "F" and "P" for track, field and pentathlon events, respectively. Iurii Tsaruk (born 2 May 1987) is a Ukrainian athlete who competes in disability athletics in the T35 category. He won the gold medal for the 200 metres at the 2012 Paralympic Games for his category with a new World Record. Tsaruk set a European record to win the 100 metres at London 2012. Bojan Mitic (born 27 August 1985) is a Paralympian Track and field athlete from Switzerland competing mainly in category T34 sprint events. Personal history Mitic was born in Lucerne in Switzerland in 1985. He was born premature which resulted in cerebral palsy. He is an engineer by trade. Athletics career Mitic first represented Switzerland at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens. He entered three sprint events but did not finish in a podium place. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London he finished just outside the medal positions in fourth in both the T34 100m and 200m sprints. Rheed McCracken (born 20 January 1997) is an Australian Paralympic athletics competitor. He named the 2012 Junior Athlete of the Year as part of the Australian Paralympian of the Year Awards. André Andrade is a Paralympic track and field, athlete from Brazil competing mainly in category T13 sprints events. André has competed in the sprint events at three consecutive Paralympics in 2000 Summer Paralympics, 2000 he competed in the 400m and won silvers in both the 100m and 200m.
