The men's 20 kilometres race walk at the 2004 Summer Olympics as part of the Athletics at the 2004 Summer Olympics, athletics program was held through the streets of Athens with the start and finish at the Athens Olympic Stadium on August 20. The Chinese trio of Han Yucheng, Liu Yunfeng, and Zhu Hongjun took an early lead as the race walkers had left the stadium, but their challenge never materialized. Han could not keep up with the leaders through the first lap and soon fell off the pace, leaving Liu and Zhu with a burden to defend their chances. Approaching the second and third lap, Spain's Paquillo Fernández soon joined the Chinese duo to toughen the pace and build a commanding lead over the rest of the field, followed by his teammate Juan Manuel Molina, Ivano Brugnetti, Nathan Deakes, African champion Hatem Ghoula, and overwhelming favorite Jefferson Pérez. Noé "El Chivo" Hernández Valentin (March 15, 1978 – January 16, 2013) was a Mexican race walker. Hernández won a silver medal at the 2000 Olympics and participated at the 2004 Olympics. Aigars Fadejevs (born December 27, 1975) is a former Latvian Athletics (sport), athlete, competing in 20 km, 50 km walk and marathon running, and a rehabilitologist for sprinters. Fadejevs competed in 1996 Summer Olympics, finishing 6th in the 20 km walk and in the 2000 Summer Olympics, winning the silver medal in 50 km, 2004 Olympics, 50 km 11th, 20 km 9th. He also won a gold medal in the European U23 Championships in 1997, a silver medal in the 1998 European Championships in Athletics, 1998 European Championships at the 20 km distance, and finished 4th in 50 km at the World Championships in Edmonton in 2001. Robert Marek Korzeniowski (born 30 July 1968) is a Polish former racewalker who won four gold medals at the Olympic Games and three gold medals at World Championships. Biography Korzeniowski was born in Lubaczów, and is the brother of fellow Olympic athlete Sylwia Korzeniowska. Career Korzeniowski won three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 50 km walk at Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, and Athens 2004.
