Athletics At The 2003 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival
The athletics competition at the 2003 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival was held from 28 to 31 July. The events took place at the Charléty Stadium in Paris, France. Boys and girls born 1986 or 1987 or later participated 31 track and field events, with similar programmes for the sexes with the exception of no steeplechase event for girls. Athletics (sport)
Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, and racewalking. The results of racing events are decided by finishing position (or time, where measured), while the jumps and throws are won by the athlete that achieves the highest or furthest measurement from a series of attempts. The simplicity of the competitions, and the lack of a need for expensive equipment, makes athletics one of the most common types of sports in the world. Athletics is mostly an individual sport, with the exception of relay races and competitions which combine athletes' performances for a team score, such as cross country. Péter Szemeti (born 27 August 1986) is a Hungarian middle- and long-distance runner who has specialized in the 1500 metres to the half marathon. He won the gold medal at the 2003 European Youth Olympic Festival (1500 m), finished tenth at the 2004 World Junior Championships, won the gold medal at the 2005 European Junior Championships (5000 m) the bronze medal at the 2007 European U23 Championships and finished fifth at the 2007 European Indoor Championships. He competed at the 2006 European Championships (5000 m), the 2009 European Indoor Championships (1500 m), the 2011 European Indoor Championships (1500 m) and the 2013 European Indoor Championships (3000 m) without reaching the final. Mark Charles Wiebe (born September 13, 1957) is an American professional golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour Champions. He also played on the PGA Tour and Nationwide Tour. Early life Wiebe was born in Seaside, Oregon and grew up in Escondido, California. He attended Escondido High School from 1972–75. Amateur career Wiebe attended Palomar College from 1976–77 and then San Jose State University from 1978–79. He was a member of the golf team at both institutions. While a student at Palomar, he was the individual medalist at the 1977 California Amateur and won the 1977 Idaho Amateur. Arnaldo Luís Isaías Abrantes (born 7 November 1986) is a Portuguese track and field sprinter, specialising in the distances of 100 metres and 200 metres. He also competes in the 4×100 metres relay. His father, Arnaldo Abrantes, was also a sprinter. Abrantes currently acts as Head of Performance at Premier League football side Nottingham Forest. Dušan Markešević (born 13 February 1986) is a Serbian long-distance runner who specialized in the various long-distance track and cross country disciplines. Running career Youth career At the age of 15, Markešević set the 3000-meter national record for the 15-year-old age group with a time of 8:51.58.
