Stadium Australia
Stadium Australia, currently known as Accor Stadium for sponsorship purposes, is a multi-purpose stadium located in the Sydney Olympic Park, in Sydney, Australia. The stadium, which in Australia is sometimes referred to as Sydney Olympic Stadium, Homebush Stadium or simply the Olympic Stadium, was completed in March 1999 at a cost of A$690 million to host the 2000 Summer Olympics. Fatuma Roba ( am, ፋጡማ ሮባ; born 18 December 1973) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner, best known for being the first African woman to win a gold medal in the women's Olympic marathon race at the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympics and for winning three successive Boston Marathons. Early life Fatuma Roba was born on 18 December 1973 in Bekoji, Ethiopia. As Fatuma grew up, there were no female role models in long distance running within Ethiopia, only Abebe Bikila. While Fatuma was at school, she was not encouraged to run but decided to continue regardless. She was coached by Sentayehu Eshetu, who had previously worked with athletes such as Derartu Tulu. Kerryn McCann
Kerryn McCann ( Hindmarsh, 2 May 1967 – 7 December 2008) was an Australian athlete. She was best known for winning the marathon at the 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games. Personal life McCann was born Kerryn Hindmarsh in Bulli, New South Wales, in 1967. In 1991 she married Greg McCann, a surfer who represented Australia twice in international competition, and was Australian champion in 1983. Their first son Benton, was born in 1997; daughter Josie was born in 2003. In August 2007 it was announced that McCann, who was expecting her third child at the time, was being treated for breast cancer. She had surgery to remove the lump and was later induced, giving birth to son Cooper on 5 September 2007 (6 weeks premature). She then began a 20-week course of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Ren Xiujuan (; born September 14, 1974, in Dalian, Liaoning) is a female Chinese long-distance runner who specialized in the marathon. Maria Manuela Machado (born August 9, 1963, in Viana do Castelo) is a former Portuguese long-distance runner, who was particularly successful when running the marathon. Unlike many other marathoners, she did not focus on running lucrative city marathons. Instead, she participated in major competitions (which were less monetarily profitable). Machado participated in the marathon in every major competition between 1990 and 2000. In her first major competition, the 1990 European Championships in Athletics in Split, she placed tenth. Adriana Fernández Miranda (born April 4, 1971) is a Mexican long-distance runner. Fernández was 2nd in 1998, and in 1999, she became the first Mexican woman to win the New York City Marathon in a time of 2:25:06 in a dominant performance by taking charge on a windy day and kept building her lead. Maura Viceconte (3 October 1967 – 10 February 2019) was an Italian long-distance runner who represented her native country twice (1996 and 2000) at the Summer Olympics. Biography Viceconte is best known for winning the bronze medal at the 1998 European Championships in Budapest, Hungary. She won three marathons during her career: Rome (1999), Vienna (2000), and Prague (2001). Her personal best time of 2:23:47 hours set at the Vienna City Marathon in 2000 stood as the Italian national record until April 2012, when it was beaten by Valeria Straneo.
