Athletics At The 1992 Summer Olympics – Men's Shot Put
The men's shot put was an event at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. There were 26 participating athletes from 18 nations. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event took place on 31 July 1992. The event was won by Mike Stulce of the United States, the nation's first victory in the men's shot put since 1968 (and 15th overall). His countryman Jim Doehring took silver. Vyacheslav Lykho of the Unified Team earned bronze, the first medal for a Soviet or former Soviet athlete in the event since 1980. Summary Switzerland's Werner Günthör was again favored, having won the 1987 and 1991 World Championships. But he was below par and placed only fourth. Paul Edwards (athlete)
Paul Michael Edwards (born 16 February 1959 in Chiswick, Greater London) is a retired professional athlete who competed in the men's shot put event during his career. He competed for both Wales and England during his career and twice represented Great Britain at the Summer Olympics: in 1988 and in 1992. Edwards was affiliated with the Walton Athletic Club and Belgrave Harriers in London. He represented Great Britain 43 times and won 11 AAA titles and 5 UK titles. He also represented Great Britain in decathlon and held Welsh national records at shot put, discus and decathlon and won 9 Welsh titles. Doping In 1994 Edwards failed two drugs tests. Klaus Bodenmüller (born 6 September 1962) is an Austrian former track and field athlete who competed in the shot put. He is Austria's best ever performer in the event and holds the Austrian records in athletics, Austrian records at outdoors and indoors. A silver medal at the 1991 IAAF World Indoor Championships made him the first Austrian to win a medal at the competition. His victory at the 1990 European Athletics Indoor Championships was the first time an Austrian had won a European shot put medal of any colour. He won a further bronze medal at the 1992 European Athletics Indoor Championships. He was a two-time Olympian, having competed in 1988 and 1992 – he placed sixth in the latter year.
