The men's 100 metres Sprint (running), sprint event at the Athletics at the 1976 Summer Olympics, 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, was held at Olympic Stadium (Montreal), Olympic Stadium on July 23 and 24. Sixty-three athletes from 40 nations competed. Each nation was limited to 3 athletes per rules in force since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Hasely Crawford of Trinidad and Tobago, earning the nation's first gold medal and making Crawford a national hero. Don Quarrie's silver medal made Jamaica only the third country to reach the men's 100 metres podium three consecutive times (after the United States, which had streaks of 9 Games and 7 Games, and Great Britain, which had medaled consecutively in 1920, 1924, and 1928). Valeriy Borzov of the Soviet Union was unable to defend his title, but by taking bronze became the third man to medal twice in the event. Olympic Stadium (Montreal)
Olympic Stadium (french: Stade olympique) is a multi-purpose stadium in Montreal, Canada, located at Olympic Park in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district of the city. Built in the mid-1970s as the main venue for the 1976 Summer Olympics, it is nicknamed "The Big O", a reference to both its name and to the doughnut-shape of the permanent component of the stadium's roof. It is also disparagingly referred to as "The Big Owe" in reference to the high cost to the city of its construction and of hosting the 1976 Olympics as a whole. Steve Williams (athlete)
Steve Williams (born November 13, 1953) is a retired track and field sprinter from the United States. He equalled the men's world records for the 100 m and 200 m with hand-timed runs of 9.9 seconds and 19.8 seconds, respectively, and was also a member of a team that set a world record in the 4 × 100 m relay. He never competed at the Olympics, but had success at the IAAF World Cup: he won the 100 m and set a world record in the 4×100-meter relay with the US team at the inaugural championship in 1977. He won the 100 yd and 220 yd American titles at the 1973 AAU Championships and retained his short sprint title with a 100 m victory in 1974. Amadou Meïté
Amadou Meïté (November 28, 1949 – February 11, 2014) was a sprinter from Côte d'Ivoire, who represented his native West African country twice at the Summer Olympics: 1972 and 1976. He is best known for winning the gold medal in the men's 100 metres at the 1978 All-Africa Games. Meïté was the father of Ben Youssef Meïté, a double African champion in 2010 and 2012, respectively, in 100 and 200 meters. In January 2014, Amadou Meïté was hospitalized in Abidjan for an undisclosed illness, after being transferred there from the University Hospital in Yopougon. Johnny Lam Jones
John Wesley "Lam" Jones (April 4, 1958 – March 15, 2019) was an American sprinter and professional football player. He won a gold medal in the 4x100 meter relay at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. He was also a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) for the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at the University of Texas. Early years Jones attended Lampasas High School. In football, he became a regular starter at running back in a wishbone offense as a junior.
