Roy Cochran
LeRoy Braxton Cochran (January 6, 1919 – September 26, 1981) was an American sprinter and hurdler, winner of two gold medals at the 1948 Summer Olympics. Born in Richton, Mississippi, as the ninth of ten children to a sportive family. Cochran played football and was a one-man track team in the high school. Cochran wanted to go to Tulane University with a football scholarship, but was persuaded by his older brother Commodore, who won a gold medal at 1924 Summer Olympics in 4×400 m relay, to go to Indiana University Bloomington with a track scholarship. Commodore later became also his coach. After winning the AAU championships in 400 m hurdles in 1939, Cochran was selected to the 1940 US Olympic team to run 400 m flat, 400 m hurdles and 4×400 m relay race. But when the 1940 Summer Olympics were cancelled due to the World War II, Cochran entered the V-7 Navy officer training course in 1942, and went to Miami for training in the Navy's Sub Chaser Training School. Ivan Fuqua
Ivan William Fuqua (August 9, 1909 – January 14, 1994) was an American athlete, a gold medal winner in the 4 × 400 m relay at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Fuqua was born in Decatur, Illinois, and graduated from Brazil High School in Brazil, Indiana, where he set multiple track and field school records. He then went on to play football and excel in track and field at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. Biography Fuqua was an AAU champion in 400 m in 1933 and 1934. At the Los Angeles Olympics, or Games of the X Olympiad, Fuqua ran the opening leg in the American 4 × 400 m relay team, winning the gold medal - Indiana University's first - with a new world record of 3:08.2. After graduation, Ivan Fuqua was appointed track coach at Connecticut State (now the University of Connecticut). Bill Roberts (athlete)
William Roberts (5 April 1912 – 5 December 2001) was an English sprinter and winner of gold medal in 4x400 m relay for Great Britain at the 1936 Summer Olympics. Born in Salford, Lancashire, William Roberts won the British AAA championships in in 1935 and 1937. At the 1934 British Empire Games, Roberts finished second in behind Godfrey Rampling, but turned the silver into the gold medal in the next British Empire Games in 1938 in Sydney, Australia. He also won a silver in 4x440 yd relay event and finished sixth in the 220 yards contest. At the Berlin Olympics, Roberts just missed the medal in the individual 400-metre event, finishing fourth in the final, and ran the third leg in the gold medal-winning British 4x400 m relay team. Derek Pugh
Derek Charles Pugh (8 February 1926 – 2 May 2008) was a British track and field athlete who competed in sprinting events. Athletics career He represented Great Britain at the 1948 Summer Olympics. He was born in Tooting in London. Outside Olympic competition, he represented England and won a silver medal in the 4 x 400 relay at the 1950 British Empire Games in Auckland, New Zealand. He was a double champion for Great Britain at the 1950 European Athletics Championships, winning the 400 metres title and the 4×400 metres relay gold medal. Leslie Charles "Les" Lewis (26 December 1924 – 7 April 1986) was a British track and field athlete who competed in the 1948 Summer Olympics and in the 1952 Summer Olympics.
