Athletics events at the 2012 Summer Paralympics were held in the Olympic Stadium and in The Mall in London, United Kingdom, from 31 August to 9 September 2012. Classification Athletes were given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allowed athletes to compete against others with a similar level of function. The athletics classifications are: *11–13: Blind (11) and visually impaired (12, 13) athletes *20: Athletes with an intellectual disability *31–38: Athletes with cerebral palsy *40: Les Autres (others) (including people with dwarfism) *42–46: Amputees *51–58: Athletes with a spinal cord disability The class numbers were given prefixes of "T", "F" and "P" for track, field and pentathlon events, respectively. Sophia Warner
Sophia Warner (born 23 May 1974) is a Paralympian track and field athlete from England competing mainly in T35 sprint events. In 2012, she qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympics, selected for the T35 100m and 200m sprint and is also part of the T35–38 women's relay team. In 2012, she became the commercial director of UK Athletics. Warner was born in Dorking in England in 1974. Warner, who has cerebral palsy, began racing at the age of 19 when she was persuaded by friends to attend a sports training weekend in Sheffield. Warner began to take her running seriously while she was studying for her degree in Biomedical Science and Business Studies at Leicester University. In June 2011 she competed in the IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand, winning the silver in the 200m and bronze in 100m sprints. Melissa Nicholls
Melissa Nicholls (born 17 July 1977) is a British wheelchair athlete specialising in middle-distance events in the T34 classification. Nicholls competed in the 2012 Summer Paralympics and won a silver medal in the 800m at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships. Personal history Nicholls was born in Worcester in 1977. She studied Equine Science at Hartpury College and works as a teaching assistant at Winchcombe Abbey School. Nicholls was involved in a serious car accident which left her with heart complications. From 2001 she had a series of strokes, while a stroke in 2008 left her unable to use her left arm and leg. In April 2009 doctors discovered a hole in her heart for which she underwent corrective surgery. In 2020, Nicholls had a 5 kg ovarian tumour removed at Cheltenham General Hospital. Rosemary Little (born 27 August 1982) is an Australian Paralympic athlete. She won a bronze medal in wheelchair racing at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, and has also competed in handcycling. She competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, her third Games, where switched from wheelchair racing to shot put.
